on mefi fanfare i went to the sheep detectives thread sharpening my knives; it was full of people who LOVED it, and also expressing confusion abt why people are calling it a children's movie.
while saying why i hated it, i said maybe it's giving children's movie because it's "silly, sexless, shallow, and safe" and i'm proud of that i think it's fair and also a bullseye.
this is part of my feelings about "coziness" which are too boring to unpack, but i both like cozy and i despise cozy so it's got churn in my brain. i think i hate "cozy mysteries" though; miss marple did not pose as a maid in a house of vile killers just so lazy actors could loaf about in synthetic englandslop (or newyorkslop, only murdersin the building i see you) diddling the tropes.
anyway they usually delete personal attacks on mefi fanfare, so i don't know if it provoked any haters. my experience though is that people who think that fanfare (and like art appreciation in general?) is a safe space, a hugbox, a place where yums shall never be yucked -- they have a lot of problems with the idea that someone can just honestly dislike something, and ironically they turn VERY nasty, VERY quickly, then in the end after trying hard to establish that *you* are the outsider freak and *they* are the normal soul, they will accuse you of doing it for clout DGMW i am not trolling, i hate trolls and provocateurs and their shitty garbage ass mindset persona that i am aping using confessing to but it's not me i swear!!!; i consume product / appreciate art with an open mind and a sincere heart and express myself honestly. i give things their shot, i offer up the pudding of my mind to their artistic manipulations to do with me as they will. the sheep detectives made me laugh a little and cry a little but it's just half-assed in its heart, there's something weirdly deeply shoddy about it.
