"you called me out of my comfortable bed for a walk?" y/n questioned, her hands shoved in the pockets of her hoodie as she looked over at juhoon who had been relatively quiet ever since he picked y/n up from her apartment.

the time that they had spent together, it seemed like he had wanted to tell her something — but constantly backed himself out of it like he was scared. y/n had observed him enough to understand what he was trying to do, but there was a thought in the back of her mind that wondered if juhoon might feel the same way she did.

she quickly flickered this thought out of her head though because it had become gleamingly clear that the two of them would never work out. although they had shared some deep conversations and vulnerable moments with each other, they were both trainees which basically equaled immediate doom.

"what, would you have declined had you known?" juhoon turned his head to face the girl as they continued walking, a sly smile plastered on his face once he saw how nervous y/n was. he let out a slight laugh, "i just wanted some company tonight."

"and you chose me?" y/n continued to press, coming to a halt as she turned her entire body to face juhoon. her eyes scanned over his face, feeling like there was something deeper behind his demeanor.

"fine — maybe i just wanted to talk with you face to face," juhoon let out a sigh, a hand falling on the back of his neck once again. he continued, "just like what i said in our messages."

"oh what? the fact that you, kim juhoon, missed me, han y/n?" y/n teased as juhoon suddenly cleared his throat and continued to walk forward without her. "hey— juhoon, i was just kidding!" she yelled as she tried to catch up with the boy's sudden fast pace.

the two soon ended up leaned against the railing of the han river after their walk, looking out into the streaming water while they ate the ice cream that they had gotten from the parlor across the street.

since they had gone quiet, the ambience between them felt different than all those times they had hung out before. it wasn't tense like y/n's first day or school or awkward like how their first tutoring session was — it was peaceful, almost comforting and relaxed in a way.

despite all the pressure that was still on her shoulders during practice, y/n felt more at peace with herself with the help of her friends and especially juhoon. stealing glances at the boy, y/n couldn't help but admire how much he had done for her and — oh, what was she thinking? it could never happen.

"y/n, i've been trying to tell you something all night. but it feels so unreal, i don't even know how to say it out loud," juhoon suddenly spoke up after their long period of silence, his gaze fixed on his ice cream for a moment before shifting over to y/n.

y/n had been snapped out of the deep thought she had been in while staring at how the river flowed. she blinked momentarily before turning her attention to the boy, quietly muttering, "what's on your mind, jju?"

"i wanted to tell you— before you heard it from anyone else. because it's important and y'know," juhoon began to ramble out of nervousness, his hand falling onto his neck once again which y/n observed as something he did out of nervousness.

"tell me, jju," y/n turned her body to face juhoon, her arm leaned against the railing as she scooped up her ice cream and took a bite while waiting for juhoon to continue speaking.

"i'm debuting, y/n. by the end of the year, you're going to be look at an idol," juhoon spoke almost too quiet out of pure shock that his dream was actually coming true, a bright smile plastered on his face.

"jju— that's amazing!" y/n exclaimed, bending down to put her ice cream on the floor so that she would be able to embrace the boy. as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, she could almost feel the smile radiating on juhoon's face which of course sent one to hers.

even if y/n had been struggling with the trainee life for the past few weeks, she couldn't have been happier for juhoon. but why was there this impending feeling inside of her that this meant things would change between the two somehow?

The rain started just after the last bell but not the loud, dramatic kind. Just a soft drizzle that turned the city into something blurry and distant.

You and Juhoon had climbed onto the school rooftop like the two of you always did when neither of you wanted to go home. 

"You know we're probably going to get caught one day."

Juhoon simply shrugged. "Then we'll graduate with a cool story."

The rooftop smelled like wet concrete. Below, the students hurried toward buses with bags over their heads. Their voices dissolve into the rain.

Juhoon sat on the edge and tilted his face toward the cloudy sky.

"You got your phone back from the office?" He asked, looking at you with an expectant face.

You held up the device proudly. "Obviously."

"Good." He held out his hand. "Give me one earbud."

The wire wasn't long enough, so you had to sit beside him. Shoulders almost touching.

Almost.

The music played over the low quality earphones. Hold me down by Daniel Ceaser.

It had a voice filled with longing. The kind of song that always sounded better on rainy afternoons.

"This one's your favorite, right?" He looked down at the almost empty ground as most of the students had already left. 

"Maybe."

"You say that every time."

"If I admit it's my favorite, I'll get tired of it."

"That's not how favorite songs work."

"It is for me."

The rain tapped against the rooftop in a steady rhythm and for a while neither of you spoke. Both of you simply listened until the song ended and the next one began.

The only sound that could be heard was the music and the rain. The bustling of students had died down and no one was left at the school. No one except you two.

Juhoon nudged your shoulder slightly.

"What's the one song you'd keep forever?"

You thought for a moment.

"The one I'd keep forever?"

"Yeah."

"If every other song disappeared?"

He nodded.

You stared out at the gray skyline.

"Probably this one."

"The one playing now?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

You listened to Jhené's heavenly vocals wondering what to answer. Kendrick's verse began as you continued to be deep in thought.

“Well?” Juhoon waited patiently for you.

"Because it feels like remembering something before it's gone."

Juhoon looked at you with a strange expression crossing his face.

“What does that mean?”

“Like, the feeling of holding onto those moments, before it leaves your memory and becomes something in the past that no one would know about.” A melancholy like feeling had taken over your mind as you explained. To stay in the present, and appreciate it. That was what kept you going in life rather than stressing about a future that hadn't happened yet. 

"That's kind of sad."

"You asked."

"Fair."

"What about you?"

He leaned back and a few drops of the rain started dripping from his slightly wet hair.

"I'd keep something that resonates with my soul."

“Which is?”

“I don't know.”

"Of course." You shook your head.

"Something that makes you want to get in a car and drive forever."

"You don't even have a driver's license."

"I will."

"You're barely able to ride your bicycle without crashing into me every morning."

"That's not the point." Juhoon smiled seeing you laugh lightly at his words. The smile that always appeared for only a second before disappearing.

Then his head turned back to the vast city in front. The song had changed to Something by The Beatles.

"Where do you think you'll be in ten years?"

The question lingered in your mind.

Ten years.

It sounded impossible.

"I don't know."

"You have to answer."

"You first. It's only fair if you do."

Juhoon groaned dramatically. "Fine."

He rested his elbows on his knees. The rain had softened even more to the point that no one would even suspect it was raining anymore.

"In ten years..."

He paused, making a picture in his mind.

"I'll probably live in an apartment."

"Very ambitious."

"Wait."

"I'm listening."

"I'll have two turtles and a dog."

“Why two turtles?”

“Cause I already have them.”

“Oh. Right.”

"And maybe I'll make music."

"Maybe?"

"Maybe."

"You always say maybe when you mean yes."

"Maybe means it's scary."

His answer surprised you. Because Juhoon never admitted when things scared him. 

Not exams.

Not fights.

Not anything.

And the sudden talk about music felt out of nowhere. He always made it seem like he only wanted a future where he studied properly.

You looked towards the sky as the sun started to show itself slowly through the clouds. 

"What if you're famous?"

"Aren't famous people miserable?"

"Most artists are." You said as a matter of fact.

"Exactly."

You nudged his shoulder this time.

"I think you'd be good at it."

For a second he didn't respond.

Then quietly, with a small smile on his face, he spoke. 

"Thanks."

The rain continued to drizzle the two of you even though the sun had started showing up. It was slow and patient like it had nowhere else to be. The playlist slowly transitioned itself onto the next song without either of you even noticing. How many miles by Mk.gee

"It's your turn to answer now." He turned his head towards you. 

You wrapped your arms around your knees.

"I think..."

You tried to picture yourself in ten years in your mind. It was hard since you weren't even sure if you'd live till then. 

"I want to live somewhere near the ocean." You searched for the right words to explain yourself. "A place where I can hear waves at night."

Juhoon nodded. "I get that."

"And maybe I'll write."

"You already write."

"Not like small things.”

“Then what?”

A small pause before you answered. 

"Real things."

"Books?"

"Maybe."

"See? You said maybe."

You groaned. "Fine. Books."

"There we go."

The sky was still cloudy as the sun which had slowly appeared went back into hiding.

"What country will you never visit?"

"What?"

"You heard me."

"That's such a random question. Isn't it usually what country you would visit?"

"Answer."

"Hmm."

"Thinking too hard."

"I'm trying."

"You'll end up saying Antarctica."

"That's not a country."

"Oh."

You snorted. This was the same guy who was always among the top students of his class.

"Maybe somewhere too crowded."

"Interesting."

Neither of you cared about the lightly soaked uniforms you were in right now. The only thing that moment offered was the conversations that went back and forth and a melody in the background that would be etched into your minds. 

Without realising, you were living in the moment that would become one of the details you'd remembered the most in the future. The sky grew darker and the songs kept playing. Eventually as time passed by, the playlist looped back to the beginning.

Juhoon listened to the familiar opening notes.

Then he said something unexpected.

"Do you think we'll still know each other in ten years?"

The question landed softly like the rain.

You turned toward him but he wasn't looking at you.

You should have answered immediately. Instead you stared at the puddles beneath. 

"I think so."

"You think so?"

"You said maybe means it's scary."

"Fair enough." He smiled.

The songs continued.

And somehow that slow afternoon ended the way all afternoons end.

Without any warning and without anyone's permission.

One day it was happening.

And the next it was a memory.

Years later.

The world looked different from what it used to be. 

The school rooftop felt smaller when you visited after graduation reunions.

The city seemed different too, like it had become taller, faster and less patient. 

You were twenty six when the memory returned completely.

It happened during another rainy afternoon.

You were sitting alone by a window where the ocean waves were audible somewhere in the distance just like you'd once imagined.

A song started playing from the café speaker.

An old song. One from that rooftop playlist. The melodies sparked something in your brain. Something that it had locked away for a long time resurfaced itself. 

You remembered every word.

The way rainwater clung to his eyelashes.

The way he always looked away when conversations became too honest.

The way he said maybe. As if dreams became less frightening when disguised as possibilities.

Outside your window, people hurried beneath their umbrellas. The same way students once ran carrying their bags on their heads.

For a moment, sixteen and twenty six existed together.

You could almost hear him again.

"Where do you think you'll be in ten years?"

Back then, neither of you knew. Neither of you could have known how some dreams would come true and how others wouldn't.

How people drift apart, not because they want to, but because life keeps moving on.

How your memory chooses strange things to preserve.

Not birthdays.

Not exam scores.

Just a rainy rooftop with shared earphones, a favorite playlist and a conversation about the future.

The song in the café ended. The room became quiet again for a few seconds until the next song was up. Lullaby by Cortis.

A small smile crept onto your face as you heard Juhoon's voice through the speaker. 

Your mind takes you back to your high school graduation day. 

Everyone was busy saying their goodbyes and taking photos to remember each other by. You looked around to find Juhoon, holding tightly onto the camera in your hand. 

You went around talking to all your friends, and yet, no sign of the person your mind was desperately looking for. 

After walking around for a good amount of time you finally found him, surrounded by people like usual. He was everyone's favourite after all. Hesitantly, you moved away and waited near a wall until the crowd left him alone. 

Luckily enough, he saw you among the sea of people and made his way through them. 

You watched as he approached you and it was as if you both were the only people in that moment. Just like those days at the rooftop, where it would be just the two of you and students bustling beneath would be forgotten. 

“Hey.”

“Hey.”

He looked down at the camera in your hand. But instead of asking whether to take a photo, he seemed to have a weird expression on his face. One that resembled guilt, oddly enough. 

“I'm going to become a trainee at Hybe.”

The world around you stopped the moment those words left his mouth.

‘Trainee?’

He could read right through you like an open book.

“I'm sorry I didn't mention this before. I just…”

He was nervous. Nervous of what held for him in the future and how you'd react to all this being suddenly dumped on you.

“You'll be an idol?” 

“Seems like it, yeah.”

When he said he wanted to make music you never thought it would mean he'd become an idol. Someone who had to live up to the gruesome high expectations of society. 

You looked at him, his eyes. You didn't know exactly what to say, what were the right words to someone who you might be seeing the last time? This isn't what school taught you and it's not something anyone would ever teach you.

Things like these came from experience and this would be your first one. It didn't matter whether your response was right or wrong, what mattered was to show your support to him. To let him know, he'll be fine.

“Good luck.”

“Thanks.”

And that was the last time you'd see him smile in front of you. Perhaps even the last you'd ever see him.

You were supposed to be happy for him but somewhere inside of you, whatever it was that was tugging at your heart, wouldn't let you. All you could do was smile back at him that day.

You looked out at the ocean. A smile appeared before you realized it.

Because after all those years, one thing remained unchanged.

You still remembered the exact answer he'd given when you asked what song he'd keep forever.

Something that resonates with his soul.

Something that made him want to get in a car and drive forever.

The rain continued falling outside. Blue in the way old memories are blue. Not because they were sad but because they're too beautiful to return to. It was something that had been meant for that moment only. Not something you could relive again. 

Somewhere beyond the rain and years and distance, a sixteen year old boy was still sitting on a rooftop.

Sharing one earbud and talking about the future.

Completely unaware that someone would remember every word.

"Y/n! Help me!" Tommy shouts, sprinting over to you at the Twitch Rivals event. He rests his hands on your shoulders, having approached you from behind.

You spin around, facing him with a 'I'm not mad, just disappointed' look. You hum, asking him what he did now.

"I need you to be my partner for like, 15 minutes. Please! I'll pay you back" The blonde speaks rapidly, running a hand through his hair. The purple Twitch lanyard hangs from his neck, tied around itself since he'd probably sprinted all throughout the building trying to find you.

You furrow your eyebrows and squint at the boy, confused, "What? Why?"

He sighs, and glances away momentarily. "I told someone I have a partner and they wanted me to prove it, I need help. Please, please, please, Y/n! I'll do anything"

You lightly chuckle and nod, "Yeah, yeah, you're good. C'mon" You pat him on the shoulder, cueing him to lead you back to this person, "Who are we lying to today?"

"I dunno, some random smaller streamers " He shrugs

"And why do you care about proving something to them?" You ask, spinning your lanyard around your finger.

The blonde doesn't answer for a moment, then shrugs, pulling at the hem of his sweatshirt. He leads you two across the building and up some stairs, a serious workout, no wonder why he was breaking a sweat when he approached you.

He quickly introduced you to the two smaller streamers he was talking about, proving that he in fact had a special someone.

"It's on the low, though, so, uh..." The blonde shrugs, looking at you.

You nod, running a hand through your hair.

You spend some time talking to the younger creators, giving them advice and whatnot before they eventually dip out to watch and talk to Punz and Foolish on one of the obstacle courses.

As they're out of hearing distance, Tommy lets out a breath he felt like he'd been holding for half an hour, then looks at you, silently thanking you for putting on this little act for him. You may not have understood, but you were going to support Tommy no matter what.

"You're welcome" You giggle, fist bumping the boy

"Thank you so fuckin' much" He smiles, accepting the friendly gesture.

Tommy sat at his desk, happily streaming some Minecraft with Freddie, Tubbo, and Phil. He notices some thin, black lines forming on his left hand, resting over the WASD keys on his keyboard. They started at the fingers and slowly trailed down to his wrist.

He lightly smiles, seeing that his soulmate is doing the usual, drawing some doodles on their hand in the evening. He refocuses his attention, getting back to his stream.

The next afternoon, he's walking about town with Freddie and Tubbo, having a fun little day out with two of his best friends. They sit down on the ledge of a fountain in the little center of the outdoor mall they were walking about in. Freddie on the left, Tommy in the middle, and Tubbo on the right.

Tommy looks down at his hand, still stained with black and red marker. Clearly, his soulmate hadn't showered or had been trying to rub it off while washing their hands since yesterday, like they wanted it to stay. Tommy hoped that they were proud of their arts skills. Maybe once they'd met, he could get some temporary sharpie tattoos from them, although they'd forever be twinning with that ideology.

"You good, Tom?" Tubbo asks, tapping the blonde on the shoulder.

He quickly nods, "Yeah, yeah. Just-"

Freddie cuts him off with a smug smile, "Admiring your soulmate’s artistic ability?"

Tommy silently nods with a little smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He had no idea who was bound to be with him, but he was already falling in love in a way.

Somehow, they knew that red was his favorite color, how he loved roses and tulips. They frequently drew flowering red vines on their hands and fingers, with a little note reading 'for you, soulmate'.

This time, they left a note at the base of his wrist.

'have a lovely day, blondielocks <3'

Blondielocks.

That dumbass nickname they gave him a few weeks ago while they communicated with markers on their legs. That night created a core memory for the blonde boy.

The next morning, Tommy's legs were still covered in red, green, blue, and purple marker stains. That forced him to sit in the shower with a wash cloth and wipe down his legs and thighs, washing off all he wrote. He patiently waited for them to do the same, and not long after, the colored ink dripped down his legs into the drain, leaving his legs as white as they were before like an empty canvas.

Freddie lightly shoves Tommy with his arm, "You'll find them soon enough"

"Says you! You're bisexual and you still haven't met your soulmate." Tommy frowns.

Tommy fidgets with his hands while he scans the people walking around, seeing a person with some doodles on their hands walking past with a friend. Upon a bit of creepy staring, the blonde feels something in his brain tingling. A weird, safe sense as he looks at this person. As they walk past, he notices the doodles on their hand are exactly the same as the ones on his hand.

Freddie looks at Tommy in confusion. "Being bi has nothing to do with it, I promise."

He quickly taps Tubbo on the shoulder, staring at the stranger.

"Tubbo, Tubbo, Tubbo, Toby! Toby, this is an emergency!"

"What?" Tubbo sighs, setting his phone down as he looks at his blonde friend.

Tommy discreetly points towards the person, "I think that's my soulmate! What do I do?" He asks, hushing his voice.

Tubbo shrugs, "Go talk to them, compliment them, I dunno"

Tommy turns to Freddie, who just replies with a smug smile.

"You're no help" the blonde mumbles, standing up as he feels his hands start to shake.

He walks towards the person, tapping them on the shoulder.

They quickly look back with a warm smile.

"HI! Uh, sorry to bother- uhm, I really like your outfit" He awkwardly smiles

They return the awkward smile back, seeing his hand run through his hair.

"Thank you!" They say

They look at his hand, then him, seeing the ink drawn doodles. He shows them his hand, the two sharing thoughts.

They hold their hand out as well, showing the same doodles on their own hand.

"Uh, hi" He awkwardly smiles, "I'm Tommy" He flips his hand over, showing the little message on his wrist, "Or Blondielocks"

They giggle, flipping their wrist over to show the same text.

You're a new streamer on the block. Maybe in past eras, this wouldn't be the greatest for you, but during a worldwide lockdown when people have too much free time on their hands, this has been great for you. You've relatively avoided struggling to gain a handful of viewers, and the people you find in your chat are usually very nice. You have your own tiny community of five thousand Twitch followers and nine thousand YouTube subscribers just a few months into your streaming journey.

Now, you're no TommyInnit by any means. You haven't been into gaming content as long as he has, and you aren't part of the world's biggest Minecraft SMP either. You're not loud and slightly obnoxious for the bit, you're not as natrually funny as he is. But you're not aiming to be like him or anyone else on that SMP. You want to be yourself, exploring the limits of your own multiplayer world that only you play on.

You've been looking for other small streamers to play with, since your friends either don't play Minecraft on PC or don't want to be on your streams. You've DM'ed some smaller creators through Twitter and Tumblr, but you never got answers. So, for now, it'll just be you, building a functioning town for your future guests.

There's a small logging area you made in a more woodsy area of the town, surrounded by trees. You left some iron axes in barrels beside chests filled with different types of wood and saplings and a little sign over it, reading something along the lines of replanting what you take down. You have multiple restaurants, different buildings for different villagers, and even a thrift store for unwanted armor and items for your future guests to rummage through for free.

To say you craved having a friend on this server was an understatement.

But here you are, streaming to about three thousand viewers on a random Saturday afternoon. You're deep in a cave, looking for coal and underground blocks to use for some builds. A mineshaft would be cool, too. But for now, you're happy gathering resources for your new apartment complex.

It's heavily inspired by an idol of yours' build from the past, Stampy's rainbow themed tower / hotel build. Except, you were using diorite and andesite outside and some wood logs, and you decided to change up the rainbow scheme, red on top and purple on the bottom. He had his red on the bottom and purple on top, at least, that's how you remember it.

Soft lofi music plays in the background of your stream since you can't find a way to talk 24/7 to entertain your viewers, and you don't like listening to Minecraft noise, especially cave noises. You fear you'll end up in some horror arg and get kidnapped by some mythical entity or the government and get trapped in the game forever. Not seriously, but on the down low... sorta.

It's a chill stream, something your viewers can have on as background noise while they play their own games or try to lock in on the thirty missing assignments they need to make up. Or, maybe, someone has you on in the background while they play Wii Sports. Who knows.

Tommy likes streaming at random, unannounced hours sometimes. Just to have a low viewer count, he guesses. It's a little less pressuring, y'know? Sometimes, he just likes to stream on his own, searching through random clips people have sent into his server.

He'll even give his fans some recommendations of other smaller-ish creators to hype up. Sometimes, even his pre-existing friends. Freddie, Max, Harry. Those cool guys.

But seems it may be your turn.

Someone had sent in a clip of you, a very, very embarrassing clip of you, screaming like a baby after being scared shitless by Nightmare Fredbear in FNAF 4. You managed to push yourself so hard away from your desk and PC that you wound up on the floor, crashing down against your chair. Your face would be perfect for a scared / shocked reaction image to the point you couldn't be mad if people started doing that.

But that one clip got Tommy interested.

"Dude, who is this?!"

He skims through his live chat, hoping someone in superchat will send an answer. With how fast the chat moves, he can barely read any replies with genuine answers.

He finds it, though, a watermark on the video that was sent in. He sighs and playfully smacks his own forehead before carefully retyping your username out onto the Twitch search bar. He's determined to find you.

"I said next person we find who's actually live is getting ten gifted," he smiles, "Let's hope they are. That shit was funny. They deserve it."

He finds your profile in an instant after the search actually loads. And there you are, actually streaming. He seems sort of surprised, really. He joins the stream in silence, just picking up what you're putting down.

Seems you're building now, organizing colored glass in your inventory, moving stacks of blocks between chests. He's actually engaged in whatever visually satisfying loop you have him stuck in before he actually speaks.

"Oh, shit, they-that's cool."

Smooth, dude. Smooth.

"Time to gift," he smirks deviously, frantically typing in his beloved card info onto the Twitch purchase page. "Did I say ten? Or a hundred?"

His chat spams different answers, half of them wanting Tommy to overgift you for the absoloute dub on your part, and the other half just wanting to be honest in case he did somehow forget. All the while, you're blissfully unaware, listening to copyright free CG5 and Derivakat as you build.

You seem so at piece in your little facecam. A small smile tugs at the corners of your lips. It sort of hurts his heart. You seem so wholesome and full of love for your whole five thousand fans, meanwhile he's leading a train of thirty thousand rowdy teenagers towards you. He's thinking about sending a DM to you through Twitter after this, just as a formal apology. He fears the toxic viewers may try to come for your head in all honesty.

"Oh, shit, what's my pin..."

"I'm sorry, who just gifted a hundred subs?!"

You squint as you frantically look through your Twitch notifs. And there you find it. Your eyes were not making all that up.

You read the notification as the little gift boxes spin across your livestream. "TommyInnit gifted one hundred subs."

You stare at your webcam with a mix of shock and surprise, "I- What? Dude, thank you so much?" you speak with a heavy tone of confusion, "I promise not everything I say is a question, I'm just, what???"

A small chuckle escapes your lips, "Wow. Man, thank you, seriously. That's... so much money. How much is that??"
