Appropriating Indigenous American cultures for her American wizard school. Making all of the bankers in her books hook-nosed goblins. Naming the ONLY East Asian character in the books "Cho Chang" and putting her in the "smart people house". The way that she treats the Patil Twins, the only two other Asians, and the only South Asians in the series. The way that she treats ALL her characters of color. JKR's racism has always been there. People just seem to gloss over it for some reason and to be honest, I'm getting really frustrated and tired of constantly adding that racism is a problem in the notes of these posts. And this is literally just based on Harry Potter! The rest of her stuff surely has even more problems!

I don't want to downplay her transphobia. That's a huge issue that, I, especially as a trans person, cannot emphasize enough! But as a person of color, I feel like I need to remind y'all that it's just the tip of the iceberg.

I think OP of this post I rbed about JKR's racism specifically against Indigenous Americans put it perfectly. This has made it painfully obvious that people are white before they are queer.

It's not that hard just to acknowledge her racism alongside her transphobia. If you're making a post about her remember that she's shitty in so many other ways, and she's always been shitty.

I know this is long but I'm rambling, so...

tl;dr JKR is racist as well as transphobic. Just acknowledge that in your pleas for people to stop supporting her. Please. It's literally so easy. anyways jkr's a piece of shit and I hope she burns in hell!!

This is exactly what OP is saying. The antisemetism gets a pass. It's not a big deal, it's hand waved away.

There's also the implications of a story whose villians are clearly Hitler and the Nazis with zero Jewish characters, except of course for the goblins, oh and the evil hooked nose teacher with greasy hair who used to be a Nazi but gave that up with the girl he loved was targeted. Blood purity, trying to find out who secretly has impure blood... Yup JK sure loved writing about stuff that happened to Jews. She doesn't love Jews tho. Christmas is much more fun, the whole wizarding world stiff definitely celebrates that as if they have any damn idea who Christ is...

I mean I totally understand the rest of the stuff, growing up reading Harry Potter sucked whenever Christmas was brought up because not only was I all alone surrounded by kids who celebrated it while I was the only one who celebrated Chanukah, it definitely definitely sucked, not to mention I had to deal with a bunch of real-life anti-semitism and I saw that represented in the villains but I didn’t see myself represented in the heroes. 

But like also maybe the goblin stuff specifically isn’t reeeally a connection? Like they also have big ears and wrinkly skin and they’re short, it’s not just the nose thing.

Obviously we know that is not the case. 

But the goblin stuff is absolutely, 100% a connection. Antisemetism is old as fuck, as I’m sure you’re more than aware of. There is SO MUCH antisemetism in things that are spread around TODAY as like “memes” and shit. 

the illumanati (secret rich people controlling society? jews!) snake people living among us or hiding in the sewers (jews!) this person is secretly a cyborg/alien trying to learn our human ways (jews!)

Not to mention, there’s a lot of shit we associate with witches in general that’s got antisemetic origins. Pointy hat, big nose, warts... once again, Jews. We still see this shit, notably in cartoon villians. Mother Gothel and Olivia Octavius from Spiderverse come to mind. Big bushy hair, pointy nose, you get the gist. 

Do 90% of the people sharing these memes, or dressing up as witches or whatever even realize that? Absolutely not. But that doesn’t remove the antisemetism from the orgins. 

So when JK Rowling sat down and wrote her hooked nose greedy race that controls all the money, she did so with a complete disregard for how that is an OBVIOUS antisemetic trope. She didn’t care. And she’s not a kid on the internet being like “heh heh, sneeple” either. She’s an adult publishing a book series. You think you’d put some thought into that?? 

OK I don’t mean to be giving you a “modern day antisemetism in pop culture’ lecture, and this isnt me assuming you don’t know this already. I’m just illustrating my point. These connections are NOT a coincidence. The big noses, the greed and money obsession, it all goes back to things society has been taught to associate with villainy and evil. Mother Gothel and Doc Ock are supposed to look like cunning witches, the goblins are supposed to be wealth obsessed grifters. But ALL those things go back to antisemetism, the way they’ve been ingrained into society and pop culture. Even if the direct association is removed in the minds of general audiences, the history is a hatred and fear of Jews.
