Hello! Good morning or afternoon or evening! I am watching Imitation (though I haven't watched the latest episode) and it is so fun! I also starting watching So I Married an Anti-Fan and that show is also kinda fun (but I am only two episodes in and it is too early to judge). I was wondering if you have any recommendations (or know of) any other kdramas that take place in a kpop or entertainment industry setting. I know Record of Youth does, but I am aware of yours and most other peoples thoughts on that show. Thanks in advance! :)
I love the k-pop setting too! Imitation is super fun so far, I wish more people were watching it.
Fun K-dramas with K-pop Settings:
The Best Hit: A famous 90′s boyband dude travels into the future and meets up with his family and friends in this really cute drama featuring Yoon Shi Yoon. I LOVE Yoon Shi Yoon in pretty much everything but this role was made for him - he is hilarious. It’s a slice of life but features the k-pop music industry so the setting is unique. This is actually one of my favorite k-dramas.
Top Management: I know this show is mainly on Youtube Premium BUT I just got an email from Youtube basically saying “hey we know you never want to pay to watch our shows so we’re just going to let you ok?” so that’s something… Adorable mini drama about a girl who can see the future and becomes the rookie manager for a kpop band. Fun and easy and there is a little romance :)
One Fine Week: A girl who has the exact same appearance as an idol is asked to switch roles with her for a week. Super fun web drama with short episodes (season 2 was cute but not as good.)
Wish You: Your Melody from My Heart: A sweet BL about two guys who are passionate about music. One of them is approached by a music agency and for k-drama reasons the two of them end up living together.
Imitation: A girl group has a second chance at making it big and faces a lot of challenges with their comeback. Meanwhile a member of a popular boy group starts crushing on one of the members. I haven’t finished this drama so I can’t say for sure if it’s good but I’m really enjoying it so far! I love how there are so many interesting characters and it’s 100% about the k-pop world behind the scenes.
Other k-dramas that feature k-pop characters:
Her Private Life: The female lead is a fangirl with a bias - relatable! She maintains the fansite, loves taking pics of her favorite member, and the idol is actually a character in the show.
True Beauty: The two male leads are involved in the music industry and their best friend who was a popular idol passed away. One of them writes music and the other was an idol as well so there’s a whole plot about this.
Run On: The younger brother of one of the characters is an idol so there is a little bit about the industry in the show.
Other k-dramas that feature idols or trainees that I haven’t seen yet are The Producers, Shut Up Flower Boy Band, Dream High and Part Time Idol.
