This Kansas City, shit’s ran gritty.
KC Love
American artist and filmmaker Philip Haas created an awesome group of four towering sculptures inspired by a famous series of oil paintings by 16th century Italian painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo (previously featured here) in which he depicted himself as each of the Four Seasons. The 15-foot-high fiberglass sculptures entitled The Four Seasons, just like faces in Arcimboldo’s paintings, are composed of fruits, vegetables, and flora representing Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
Spring is primarily made up of flowers and other plants, while Summer and Autumn are composed of the bountiful fruits and vegetables associated with the harvest. Finally Winter is made of mainly roots and trees, with bare branches and the leaves of evergreen plants forming his hair. Together they form a wonderfully surreal, larger-than-life representation of the turning of the year. Haas’ spectacular sculptures have been shown throughout the US since they were created in 2012.

These are at the Nelson Atkins on display in the sculpture garden. I highly recommend checking them out in person if you haven't already.

It’s official! The online shope is ready to go! #meritmade
My hands and body are tired. My creativity is zapped.  I’ve spent the last 2 months preparing to launch my 2015 Summer Collection.  Everything is handcrafted from sterling silver.  Each piece is designed and fabricated by me from start to finish.  Each stone is meticulously selected.  I know I haven’t posted here often lately, but I would love it if you took a peek.  www.meritmadekc.com  Â

Doing the day job at my favorite KC coffee shop @quaycoffee
Hi Tumblr friends! I recently found out that the building where my studio is has been turned over to "the bank". I'm uncertain about what is going to happen to the space and am in the process of trying to find a new place for me to work. Change is never fun, but I'm confident that whatever comes next will be better! If you know of any good artist studio space for rent, let me know! Xo -KC
