gemma could clearly see that gala was upset, she didnât say anything yet it was the silence that said it all. along with the expression on her sweet face that gemma just wanted to kiss a million times in a row at the moment. gemma could feel her eyes deceiving her as the tears started to well up. she pretended to scratch her eyebrow or something random, anything that would cover herself even for a moment. when gala still wasnât saying anything, gemma looked away from her and out to the ocean instead. it was far but she could still see it in the distance. she figured to give gala a few moments to let everything sink in. gemma could feel her tears eventually dry up but she was still afraid to blink. she found herself wanting to apologize. not only for what she just admitted to gala but also for letting gala slip away in the first place. for not running after gala once she got into the car and drove away to return to london. for not agreeing to leave with gala in the first place. for letting them slip out of contact once they were in different countries. for everything. gemma wondered so many times what life could have been if they stayed together. would they be married by now? would there be a little gala running around in their house and what would their house look like? what would galaâs wedding band look like next to the engagement ring that gemma proposed to her with at the end of their college years?
she felt the string of her jeans being lightly tugged at which brought gemma back to look at gala who was still not making eye contact with her. even though gala was teasing gemma she could still detect the sadness in her voice, followed by the little laugh. gemma didnât know if gala actually wanted her to answer the teasing questions or not so she simply nodded in response. she then looked at galaâs hair with a small smile. god, she missed playing with it. and helping gala style it. gemma always loved when gala asked her for help. however for her last question, she figured that was a good time to speak up again. âyes. she was the only one.â the older girl confirmed and glanced back down to galaâs hands that were playing with her string. she hesitantly rested her hand on galaâs forearm. âgala.. are you okay?â she asked, hoping to catch a glimpse of her brown eyes. it was kind of a rhetorical question, gemma knew that they both werenât feeling as good as they were earlier. talking about the past without each other wasnât easy but gemma could only hope the future would be better. that is, if gala wanted to stay in gemmaâs future after this.Â
at least she felt a little relieved to know that girl was the only one. though of course it would have been better to know there wasnât any other girl in the first place, but that just wouldnât be too realistic at all. it was too much to ask for, and selfish too but she couldnât help  it. she looked back up to gemma once she felt her hand on her arm. it surprised her a little since it was so sudden, her eyes widened a bit wondering what the other was about to say. when it was the simple question gala just smiled softly, followed by a nod. âyeah, iâm okay.â she replied, sounding a little confident. sure she wasnât actually that okay or anything but she didnât want to admit it to gemma. she didnât want to sound sad or whatever and have the other one pity her.
gala took a quick look around the place, the dj was good and everyone on the dance floor seemed to be having a good time. in all honesty she just wanted to go back there and forget about literally anything, then again she really wasnât even in the mood for it anymore. she wasnât feeling like dancing and drinking wasnât quite her thing so she felt as if there was nothing for her there anymore. well, nothing but gemma of course. she wished they could just go literally anywhere else just the two of them, but she knew that probably wasnât the best idea. âare you staying too far from here, or is it nearby?â gala asked really out of nowhere.
