Not when he becomes the designated driver for a 7 am pilates class that one of your girl friends had booked last week. Apparently it was for six people and the group (including you) only consisted of five people. So yeah, he was pretty much dragged against his will. 

“But don’t you wanna try new things?” you looked over at your boyfriend who was driving with a scowl on his face though you’re still trying to figure out what could possibly be the reason behind the scowl. It’s hard because your mind came up with multiple reasons on why he looked so pissed: 

You woke him up at six in the morning and demand asked him to attend a pilates class with your friends today.

You demand asked him to drive you there since it’s raining pretty damn hard and your friends also needed a ride.

His push day at the gym is an absolute failure (he dislikes going to the gym on any other time besides 8-10 am).

His car’s bluetooth is hijacked by your friend’s playlist.

“My push day s’ruined” his jaw ticked as the sound of your friend's failed attempt of a high note reached his ears. 

“Awh come on, it'll be fun!” the palm of your left hand landed on the side of his cheek as you used your thumb to rub his jaw in a soothing manner, hoping it’ll cheer him up.

You could feel laughter bubbling up from your chest. The situation was so funny you almost wished you could whip out your phone and take a video of it: the way your boyfriend is trying to regulate his emotions and obtain peace but your friend’s wonderful singing kept on disturbing him.

“Babe just one day with no gym won’t make your gains gone and you can always go to the gym later”. 

His brows furrow, “I don’t like going there in the evening. Too many people and a bunch of little shits with their group of friends using the damn machine together. I’d have no chance to use it”. 

You sighed, understanding his frustration because if you were to put yourself in his shoes you’d be pissed too. “Okay, I’m really sorry baby. Won’t happen again just this once I promise”

“Yeah I’m sorry for booking it without telling you guys that I booked for six” your friend’s head came in between yours and Sukuna’s. “For the compensation you don’t have to pay for it Ryo” she smiled nervously as your boyfriend's head made a slow turn towards her, “Okay don’t look at me like that I’m scared”. Her eyes made contact with yours, implying that she needs a little bit of help. 

“You”, her eyes bulged out. That was the only thing your boyfriend said as he scowled at her in silence. 

“Oh my what the hell did I do dude I already said I was sorry and I’m PAYING for it” 

“What’s up with your ass being heartbroken over an idiot and we all have to pay the price” 

“I’m NOT heartbroken”

“Yeah yeah sure say that again as if I didn’t find your sorry ass on the side of the street in the middle of nowhere crying” 

“Do NOT talk about that”

“Had to drive your sorry ass home after that too”

Your friend gave him the middle finger as she laid back on her seat while crossing her arms in annoyance. 

“You” your boyfriend pointed at her sitting on the backseat, “you got your heart broken and now the whole group got to do side quests or some shit. Next thing you know we’d be camping in the forest” 

“WITH BEARS?” another one of your friends said, the dramatic and innocent one who was always the victim of being teased (Sukuna especially love to troll her).

“With bears yeah, you’re gonna get eaten”.

Your boyfriend might seem like he was a type b person but it was the complete opposite. 

Maybe because he was a guy, someone that looks rough both on the inside and the outside, someone who looks like they’d use their shirt four times in a row because it still looks clean, someone who could care less about mostly everything, and your boyfriend was anything but.

He planned his whole day the night before, he meal prepped his meals for the week with macros that was perfectly curated, he organized his calendars, he got his work done as soon as it was given instead of doing it last minute, and he cares about the things that he held dearly.

Your friends for instance, weren't direct matters to him. But they’re your friends, they make you happy and they’re a part of your world too.

Besides, they're a great company even though he would never admit it.

Oh and the guy he called an idiot that broke up with your friend and kicked her out on the side of the road? don’t ask why he’s wearing a black sunglasses at a morning lecture next week.

The world was moving fast, the leaves were changing its colors, yet right at this moment you felt the time stop. 

And suddenly you were living in the middle of what you prayed for, this was what your younger self begged as you were laying still on your back at the bathroom floor, with tears streaming down the side of your face as you felt your throat hurts from how long you’ve been screeching the sadness out of your body.

Peace

You had begged for the feeling of peace for the longest time and now it’s burning from the inside of your soul, as if it was screaming and trying to tell you that this was the peace you had begged for. 

Peace was the sound of your daughter’s incomprehensive singing though she managed to get one or two words right. Peace was your husband’s awfully hilarious interpretation of singing dramatically just to get a laugh out of your daughter. Peace was Satoru looking at you as he noticed how awfully quiet you were being for such a fun time.

Peace was Satoru's eyes frantically scanning over your facial expression to find out if something was wrong only to be met with a small smile on your face. Peace was Satoru noticing your fingers clutching his your leather jacket so tight, his right hand immediately abandoned the steering wheel and danced its way into yours that you had no choice but to let your grip go.

Peace was the tingling feeling of Satoru’s soft lips on the back of your hand as he kept it there. 

“Let go please?”, Satoru looked over at you as if you just said something tremendously rude to him, in some kind of way you did make him feel offended. What do you mean you want him to let go of his wife? Funny.

“It tickles” you reasoned, your voice carried so much softness and love that Satoru’s breath hitched. He pretends to ponder for a bit, contemplating what to answer when the both of you already know what he was going to say.

Satoru is a husband who listens to whatever his wife says. One difficult night during your pregnancy you were sick the whole day, anything you tried to eat, your baby would throw it back up all over which results in you having no appetite at all and it worried him sick. 

At one in the morning you told him you want takoyaki, one that was filled with squids. Not chicken, not cheese, just squid or else you won’t eat. An hour later your husband came back with two plastic bags of takoyakis, with that stupid smile on his face looking proud as ever to be able to find a very specific demand of takoyaki that was still open at one in the morning. 

But right now it was a different case, he wasn’t going to grant your wish of asking him to let go.

“No” he buried his nose further, taking in more of your scent that he loves. And the chaos of the world was gone as you felt the touch of him, felt the warmth radiating from his body and your daughter’s presence from the back seat, the smell of his signature cologne that you remembered from the very first time you met him, and Satoru has never looked so perfect, so...yours.

He looked like your Gojo Satoru.

As if he belonged to you and not the world, as if the title of being the strongest weren’t weighted heavy on his back, as if his family’s name were just an indication of something that you, him, and your daughter shared. 

Peace was learning that you were okay with being in the driver’s seat.

Peace was not wallowing in self pity as you played the song your husband used to sing loudly. Peace was rolling the windows down to let the sound of nature fill the car so it would hide your shaky voice from your daughter. You didn't want to look weak in front of her.

You tried to imitate the way your husband used to sing, encouraging your daughter to do what she always does when the song comes just like what she used to do with her daddy.

Peace was laughing when your voice cracked due to how hard you were trying to keep your whimpers in and if your husband was here instead of inside the car in front of you, you know he would laugh.

Peace was letting yourself cry and not hiding it from your daughter. 

“S’okay mommy”

“I miss daddy too”, your grip on the steering wheel tightened, your chest felt like it had this gaping hole inside, something sharp clawed with their hands, took your heart and crushed it. 

“But daddy is happy?”, you wiped your tear stricken face harshly with the back of your hand.

“He is baby”, you smiled at your daughter through the rear-view mirror.

“Then all will be fine mommy"

“Yeah? You think so?” Your daughter nods, hugging her white bunny plushie that Satoru had bought her when she was an infant and it never left her side ever since he told her that he left a piece of him on it (his handkerchief that was wrapped around its neck).

“Daddy will feel me hugging”, Satoru used to tell her that when he was away on missions and she missed him, just hug mister bunny and Satoru would feel its warmth, he would know when he was hugged even if he was a thousand miles away. 

“We can hug bunny together so daddy knows we miss him”

“Daddy will feel extra extra warm then”, you tried to joke.  

“Extra extra extra and super duper a thousand million triple extra because me and mommy hug mister bunny, and uncle Sugu and uncle Kento hug him too!” 

Peace was thanking Satoru for leaving you with something to remember what his white hair and blazing blue eyes looked like though it came in the form of someone much smaller. Peace was letting yourself believe that he will always be there in every step that you and your daughter take and he wished he could let you know that you weren’t just letting yourself believe because he was there. He was there sitting beside you as he listens. Truly there's not a bit of him that is gone, just less orderly.

Yes you’re absolutely loving the bare back view in the morning as he slept shirtless besides you, yes you love it when you could kiss his muscly back every time he cooks for you (because he rarely ever wears a shirt at home somehow), yes you love to bite his biceps just because, but the amount of eggs he took away from you was astonishing to say the least.

Proteins, of course.

Between the two of you, you were the one in charge of cooking and it wasn’t always like this.

It used to be something that the both of you split, for example on Monday you’re the one who cooks and the next day it’ll be on him. The rule stopped because you demanded it to be. 

You were starting to get sick from the amount of eggs and ground beef you were consuming. You understand that he prioritize hitting the amount of protein his body needs, but he doesn’t even try to make the food at least…appetizing to look at.

He argued that he switched it up for you from day to day and you wanted to knock your head on the counter because his definition of switching up consisted of changing how he cooks the eggs. Scrambled, boiled, sunny side up, poached, baked…but they were still eggs. 

Ryomen Sukuna was cocky.

He prides himself in his self discipline and organized routine. He loves challenges if it means he could always improve. He took the feeling of fear as a sign for him to do things, he won’t stay in the same place once he realized he was feeling far too comfortable, and he chases the challenges life always has to offer and enjoys every second of it. 

So when you signed him up for a hot mat pilates class with you his grin broke, flashing you a set of his straight white teeth. 

You didn’t think he would be this excited.

He asked you the night prior what he should wear, if his usual gym attire of compressed shirt and loose sweatpants were good and you caught him searching up hot mat pilates on youtube and tiktok.

“Why’s the dumbbell so tiny?”

“Are you okay sir?” Sukuna was drenched in sweat. His compressed shirt was clinging real hard onto his body.

Sweat from his forehead, his forearms, his neck, and fuck from everywhere because there wasn’t an inch of him that isn’t wet, all of it poured down onto the pilates mat. His once soft pink hair was now matted and stuck to his forehead. 

“Yeah” he gruffed out an answer. He could hear your attempt of hiding the giggles and he couldn’t even find the strength to glare at you. 

“So…dumbbells are too tiny?” you teased him. Sukuna groaned in annoyance as he wished he could take back what he said. He came here thinking it would be a walk in the wind due to the confidence of being able to bench press twice his body weight. Those tiny dumbbells weren’t going to affect him in any kind of way. Or else that’s what he thought. 

Sukuna was humbled. 

He was the only man in the studio that was filled with women in cute matching sets with less muscle mass than him yet he’s the only one looking like a dying rat in a fucking sewer.

None of them took breaks while Sukuna was currently on his fifth one and none of them were getting this absolute shake of shame. 

Sukuna’s legs were shaking and it was embarrassing. He was even more embarrassed as the instructor kept on being attentive towards him, asking him if he was doing okay and assuring him that it was more than okay to take breaks. As a man who pride himself in being the best, it took a blow to his ego. 

“So I got a confession that might make you feel better”, you were standing beside your boyfriend’s car as he left the door open while he was sitting inside. Compressed shirt already off as he drained it free from his drops of sweat onto the parking lot’s asphalt. 

“What?” he sounded like he was still catching his breath. His tone lacked the usual sharpness as he answered you. 

“It wasn’t a beginner class so it wasn’t your fault that you couldn’t keep up”, your hands were fidgeting behind your back. Your boyfriend was silent for a while, stopping his previous activity of draining his shirt as he slowly looked up at you. 

His face was all red and bothered, his tongue ran over the top set of his teeth as it finally settled on his left cheek making it protruded. His right hand came up to the side of your stomach before his fingers found its way onto your back. You didn’t realize what was happening as the next thing you know you were pressed up against him and his chin was resting on your chest. 

“You enjoyed seeing me struggle huh?” 

“Yeah, I do. Tired of seeing you be good at everything.” He grinned, “Well except cooking”. 

You were very much bothered by the way his hair seems to be sticking on his forehead, so you took the hair tie you always wore on your wrist as some sort of accessory, tied his front hair up and gave his forehead a spotlight. “What do you think about the class? Gonna stick to the gym?” 

“Nahh I’m gonna be better at this than you, sign me up again” 

You sighed, of course he’s asking you to do that. “Fineee”

“I’m not complaining though, love hearing your groans and whimpers” 

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah, please do a plank until failure and record it and give-” Sukuna cuts you off with a kiss on your lips. To be honest he couldn’t focus on whatever you were saying as he was too immersed in the way your soft lips were moving.

Satoru was affectionate particularly in regard to the people that he loves and that includes you and his friends. 

Satoru has been extremely close with his group of friends since his high school days. Growing up, he hadn’t got much autonomy over his life. His parents had already written his path and all sorts of attainment for him to accomplish. Satoru always follows through. It was not an excruciating journey as people around him used to say, it’s because Satoru was gifted. 

Satoru was acquainted and associated himself with the word gifted before it was affectionate. He was the trophy his parents relished, the representation of their victorious teachings and attest how the Gojo Corps would still be in good hands even though the person who manoeuvres  it would be different. 

High school happened and Satoru has been altered. It’s what shaped him to be the person he is today and his friends had contributed to a preponderance of it, hence explaining their close relationship. 

Your relationship with Satoru was relatively new and Satoru has yet to elucidate the mandatory hangouts at the local bar they frequently used to visit before they grew into adults with responsibilities of minimum once a month. 

Satoru has fallen maddeningly in love with you the first time he has encountered you. It was a peculiar feeling of claiming to be in love with a stranger he locked eyes with but Satoru was never one to be wrong. Within the two months of pursuing you, and the additional three months of being in a relationship with you, he had fallen even more if that was possible. Satoru doesn’t believe that there was a bottom of the eternal love he held towards you, and there was no chance for him to ascend back. It’s just an endless and continuous fall from now on. 

This was the very reason why he hadn’t got the courage to tell you about it, to ask for permission whether he’s allowed to or not, though he hoped it wouldn’t escalate into a question of who does Satoru choose, his girlfriend or his friends? 

He never wants to lose you but at the same time he has been finding half-hearted reasons regarding his absence for the last three months. His friends, having known him for years, didn’t believe his half-assed excuses. They know what to expect every time Satoru was entangled in a relationship, whether it was the absence of the white-haired man or his excessively anxious presence as he would be tied up on constantly checking his phone, typing hastily, and excusing himself to take a phone call. Yet they never commented on it. 

Satoru never brought up the substantial essence of his friends in front of you although you had never given any reasons for him not to. You have been nothing but sweet. Nothing but understanding and endless patience that proves you were different from all of his past lovers. Where he’d feel like he gave his all yet it was still not enough, all of his past lovers who were adamant on them being the central of Satoru’s whole world and would bring hell right onto Satoru’s face if they failed to feel that way. 

But you haven’t been answering your phone and Satoru was restless. 

Here he was, with his friends at their annual hangout spot because earlier when he was about to go straight home after work, the guilt swallowed him whole. It was one of those rare moments where everyone in the group chat was online, bickering back and forth and Satoru knew what it meant. So before he could think any further about what kind of hell he had to deal with later, he typed in an answer that he’d be there tonight. 

You weren’t reading any of his messages and Satoru knows this too damn well.

It was some sort of a deja vu moment that he was having, this wasn’t anything new.

You were mad at him.

That’s why you were leaving him on delivered, because he was selfishly hanging out with his friends instead of going home to you. He tried to keep the facade of being perfectly fine although his body demeanor betrays himself: the way his fingers kept on tapping on the table’s surface, the way his eyes would gaze at his phone which results in a delayed response as Shoko would nudge him because somebody apparently was talking to him and he hasn’t been listening, or the way he would jump when he received a notification and turns out it wasn’t you. 

Satoru was home. The night was a failure of both disappointing you and his friends much to his dismay. You still haven’t read any of his messages and he ruined the night by being there with his problems laid out bare for his friends to see.

Satoru did apologize.

A short and curt one as his head was swarmed with the thought of you, of how to make it up to you, and push the little energy he had left for the day just to fix things with you. So here he was, regulating his breath with a bouquet of your favorite flowers on his right hand, the sleeve of his white dress shirt rolled up to his elbows, and his necktie somewhere on the backseat of his car. Satoru didn’t know what he looked like right now but a mess would be the perfect word to describe it. 

“Toru?”

Before he had the chance to open the door, he was greeted with the sight of you. Satoru unconsciously took a sharp inhale and the well-structured sentences Satoru had prepared on his way home went somewhere far away to the back of his mind. He had expected annoyance, irritation, or maybe even outrage but what he did not expect was the concerned look on your face. 

“I’m sorry”, that was all he could come up with from the energy drained from his body as today had been a long day. His head hung low, not daring to meet your eyes. 

Silence, Satoru’s apology was met with silence and he internally winced. 

“Toru what?” 

“I apologize for today”, his head didn’t move an inch by the way it was already hung low but he felt it kept going lower and lower, the floor melted under his feet as it swallowed him whole and he would’ve drown even further if he did not feel the soft skin beneath your fingertips grazing the underside of his face forcing him to look you in the eye. Satoru thought he looked a lot of mess and by the way your frown deepened as you looked at him he was convinced he was right, maybe even messier than he originally thought. 

“Babe, what do you mean? What are you sorry for?” 

“I-uh I know you’re upset with me right now because well– I was um I know it’s a bar and stuff but it’s just me and my friends hangout spot..sort of…I haven’t been– I have been finding some excuses to not come but today I was just– I felt guilty because I haven’t been able to come and I know I should’ve put you first but I uh- I–”

“Toru” 

“Yes?” 

“You’re going too fast, please slow down” 

Satoru let out a defeated sigh. He let his grip get loose on the bouquet once he realized he was clutching pretty damn hard. “It doesn’t matter”, he shaked his head, “The point is I am sorry”

“It does matter because I don’t understand what you are sorry for” 

“Well clearly you are upset with me, you ignored my messages and I was out with my frie–” 

“Stop”, you motioned with your finger in front of his face, “first of all, why did you think I was purposefully ignoring you? I was sleeping” 

“Huh?” 

You rolled your eyes at how quick your boyfriend was being on making a conclusion. Your arms circled around his neck as you invaded his space closer and let some of your body weight onto your boyfriend to support, “Also upset? Over you hanging out with your friends at a bar? Putting me first? Have you lost your mind?” 

Satoru was dumbfounded. This wasn’t what Satoru had in mind over the hundreds of scenarios of this being the first fight he would have with you. Definitely not one consisting of you clinging onto him while asking if he had lost his mind. 

“I thought–”

“Toru every single thing you’re overthinking about is probably wrong, okay? I did not ignore your messages on purpose, I was sleeping. And I wouldn’t be upset over you hanging out with your friends…this one I couldn’t understand because what on earth made you think I’d be upset over that? 

The heavy weight on his chest that seems to sunken the soul out of him was lifted. It felt easy to breathe. 

“So you’re not mad at me?” 

“No?” 

“Oh..” 

Your eyes shifted towards the bouquet filled with your favorite flowers that was arranged beautifully which he was holding, “Is that your supposed apology gift for me?”

“Yes…do you not like it?”, your eyes went back on your boyfriend’s face, gaze raking down all the way from his messy white hair that you assumed was caused by the constant run through of his fingers, towards his plump bottom lips that jutted out in a frown state. 

“It’s beautiful” 

“Yeah?”

You nodded. 

Satoru’s face finds its way to the crook of your neck, you felt him take an inhale of your scent and find his tense shoulders visibly relaxing as he does so. 

“The night didn’t go well, did it?” you felt the shake of his head though it was still buried in the crevice where your neck and shoulder met. “You’re going out with them again and you’re going to make it up for them” 

“M’kay” 

“Toru I’m serious, they probably have the wrong impression of me” 

“God baby no way you’re an angel” 

“Says you” 

“But you are an angel and heaven and everything nice”

“And everything nice” 

“Hmm..smells like one too”

“Like nice things?”

“Like heaven and I really really really wanna have a taste”, your body went rigid as you felt something poke into your stomach, something that might be associated with the 6’3 man that’s currently clinging onto you for dear life. 

“TORU?” 

“Don’t blame me angel”

“I wasn’t even–”

“Oh please…just the sound of your voice give me a hard on why are you surprised”

Sukuna wasn’t always this good of a person.

Perhaps it was how society does not reprimand his wrongs and instead handled it as if it was the nature of being a man, or the fact that being vulnerable was never an option as his father had expected him to be stoic about most things, to be selfish, to not feel, to conceive that the world is unjust, and to be indestructible if he sought to be someone. All of which leads to a definition of what his father thought about being a man. 

But his father had been so wrong.

It was palpable that he had never got the chance to be the beholder of witnessing how the toughest and formidable strength there was, comes in the shape of compassion as well as an enormous kindness it wilts the affliction in this damned awful world.

Sukuna thought that the definition of being strong was to be rough and to be tough. With you he learnt that it was the other way.

You handled things with grace and the kind of maturity which allows you to immerse yourself in your feelings. To understand that choosing how to react about certain things was not an easy thing to do, especially when it comes to Sukuna who’s always been about acting first and thinking later. 

You were overwhelmed. 

For the past weeks you haven’t got any proper sleep as work kept on piling up and every time you thought it was over, another came.

Your lecturers haven’t shown you any mercy from the way they decided that it was a great idea to grant a deadline on the same day the task was given, and the people you were assigned with in a group project worth half of your final grade weren’t capable of citing a source which result in you having to take over the majority of the work.

You’ve been depriving yourself the time to stop and feel, to take breaks and if it weren’t for your daily dose of iced americano with seven extra shots you’d surely be dead. 

Tonight was like any other night you’ve been having since last month.

Work and even more work.

You’ve been craving udon from your favorite udon place and your stomach has been rumbling all day just thinking about it: the richness of the broth, the suppleness of the udon, and the meltiness of a poached egg bursting inside of your mouth.

Sukuna was aware of it, that’s why he told you he was going to make an order before you went inside of the shower. It was the first genuine smile he had seen from you in a while. 

“Babe the place is closed”

And the slight feeling of joyousness was gone in an instant.

Your shoulder starts caving in, your back goes slump, and your throat starts getting tighter and warm. “Oh, okay”

Your boyfriend started rambling about how unusual it is that they’re closed, especially near the end of the month where students' allowance were probably close to zero, and it would’ve been such a huge advantage or something you don’t know, your body unintentionally started blocking out the noises.

Everything felt so wrong. The way your shirt clings to your body was wrong, the sound emitting from the tv was too loud, and the due dates blaring from your laptop screen was mocking you. 

“Do you want something else?” Your boyfriend asked you from the corner of the room, sitting on the couch of your shared place with his phone still in his hand.

You shaked your head, though your stomach started screaming in protest.

You were starving, that was a fact.

But maybe it was the pettiness of wanting things to be right just once, maybe it was your hopeful idea for the udon to symbolize how this semester will end and that eventually everything will be alright. And you didn’t get to have it.

But Sukuna notices everything.

He noticed the way you had refused to do your work near him and instead you had opted to sit on the counter stool near the kitchen.

Sukuna noticed the slightest frown on your face, how the corner of your lips formed downward, and the way your eyebrows scrunched together when he told you how the udon’s place was closed.

He also noticed you clutching on your stomach even though you had refused to order another food when he had offered. 

Sukuna was in the middle of scrolling tiktoks on his phone when he could see from the corner of his eyes that you were hunched over the kitchen counter.

At first he thought you fell asleep, until he noticed the slight tremble of your body and how quickly it picked up its pace.

Your body was heaving.

Sukuna stiffened, his hands were clutching hard on the side of his laptop that was still sitting on his lap. Sukuna could hear your little sniffles, the way you tried to force it to stay quiet, to stay small and hoped that he wouldn’t notice. And when the sniffles turned into light whimpers, they pierced its way into Sukuna’s heart. 

There was nothing faster that could be compared with the way Sukuna runs towards you.

His laptop and phone were tossed aside, landing on the floor he assumed, as he heard the loud thud but he could care less. Sukuna reached for your head that was resting on your folded arms on the counter but you wouldn’t budge.

It seems you were even more upset that you couldn’t let out your frustration due to him being in the way, and when you finally looked at him he couldn’t find the words to describe how battered he was feeling. 

He would rather be shot a thousand times than to ever see you in this state ever again. 

He couldn’t find the word to soothe you. He doesn’t know what the right thing to say is when faced with his loved one weeping in sorrow, so Sukuna comforts you in the only way he knows how. 

He embraced you into his arms, his right hand started rubbing along your spine in a comforting manner while the other one did the same thing on the nape of your neck.

Your sobs grew louder and Sukuna could only stand there, providing you with the warmth of his body which was pressed against yours and he hoped the steady beat of his heart could guide yours to do the same. 

Your hands fisted on his hoodie, hard enough in order to stop your body from shaking. Sukuna doesn’t say anything but the feeling of him rubbing parts of your body doesn’t stop. 

Only once you are left with slight sighs and occasional stutter from your breath does Sukuna finally speak. “Baby no more hurting yourself like that”

“I’m tired”

Tired was the simplest way to describe how you were feeling, Sukuna understood the weight of the word and how broad the feeling was but still, he was delighted that you trusted him enough to share.  

“I know baby, I know.” Because he actually does know.

Sukuna didn’t know you would break like this in front of him, and certainly didn’t think you would cry. But no matter what he thought before, ever since he noticed your schedules getting tighter, he has always tried to lessen the things that had made you sleep a lot less, to ease the frown on your face, and to be a great company on every single night you decided to pull an all-nighter. 

Maybe you were too busy spending time inside of your own head to notice that all of this time you weren’t alone. That you would always wake up in your shared bed even though last night you recalled working on the couch, that you didn’t have to worry about not having the time to prepare for your meal because Sukuna had already done so, that someone was always there to listen to every anger and frustration you spew out of your mouth. 

“Promise me something”, he cupped your face, “Know that I am here. Yeah? Can you do that?”

Your bottom lips trembled, the droplets from your eyes threatened to come back. 

“You don’t have to tell me everything but I also want you to not bottle things up ever again. This right here,” he pointed towards your chest, where your heart resided, “needs your love, your patience, and your kindness. You always do a great job at showing it to me and others so do not exclude yourself. Matter of fact if you had to choose between me or you, you must choose you, always. You hear me babe?” you nodded.

“C’mere”, Sukuna pulled you closer, his thumb and index finger landed their way onto your chin in order to help him shorten the distance between yours and his lips. 

Sukuna learnt a lot of things from you, but it goes the same for you. 

When you had taught him the lesson of being strong, of being tender and humane, of being a man, you were taught what it is to be selfish. The lesson of the indispensable way of putting yourself first.

The ride in your boyfriend’s car on the way to your parents house was a full on struggle on holding yourself back from bursting into a fit of giggles. Your boyfriend would never admit the feelings of anxiousness emitting from his body, but anyone who’s able to see could tell: the occasional sighs he lets out though there was nothing for him to let out a sigh about, the death grip on the steering wheel, and his clammy hands which he kept on trying to conceal by wiping it on his pair of baggy jeans.

It wouldn’t be the first time he gets to meet your family, but it certainly is the first time he was invited to a dinner, where he had to sit at the same table for some time whilst keeping up small conversations. 

Your parents never commented on your choice of man, yet Sukuna felt like you just didn’t tell him about it in order to not hurt his feelings. Facts or not, he knows what kind of guy he appears to be and it certainly wouldn’t be in the list of every parents’ dream man for their children to have a relationship with. But then he glanced at your serene sitting form, the way you had one leg up with your arm resting on your knee, and figured out that it seems that he was the only one to worry over the situation he was about to be in. 

Everything was going well, the main course was perfect and your boyfriend seems to have eased up and grew warm into his surroundings. He succeeded in carrying the conversation, letting it grow loosely with the absence of awkwardness. 

Desserts are primarily something mandatory in your household and everyone has got to have more room even though the fullness from the previous meal was more than enough. But a sweet taste after something savory was the perfect balance so it became a tradition. Dessert after main course is a must. 

You should be stoned for this, that is the lightest punishment you should get for coming up with the idea to do something you watched on your tiktok’s page this morning and you know it. Such a cruel thing to do to your already anxious boyfriend but the feeling of excitement overbears your guilt. 

The brownies were being passed around the table, it was in your brother’s hand first, then it went to you mom, and you realized that it’ll go in the direct order of the table to each person’s right and your turn came after your dad’s who was apparently sitting next to your mom. This creates the perfect opportunity once it reaches your dad’s hands. 

“Babe am I allowed to have desserts?” 

Silence. 

The big spoon that was being used to put the brownies—that has been cut into pieces—into the plate made a loud clang due to the sudden collision between the two. Your dad’s movement paused, hand still holding onto said spoon as he looked at you. Your mom froze mid chew, eyes bulging out a bit before she started letting out coughs and before you could see some of the brownie’s crumbs flew out of her mouth, she quickly grabbed a napkin to cover it. Your brother, the same coin on a different side with you actually pursed his lips as he concernedly glanced to where your boyfriend was sitting. 

You might as well be six feet under right now. 

There was nothing, nothing that could prepare for the look your boyfriend gave you and you almost break character. 

“What?” you’ve never heard Sukuna’s voice go up into a higher pitch like that before, it’s even funnier that you could make out the slight crack at the end of the word. 

“Am I allowed to eat dessert?” you repeated for the second time as if the whole table didn’t hear you loud and clear for the first one. Your boyfriend’s eyes were filled with bewilderment, his mouth slightly agape and his face clearly speaks what-the-fuck-are-you-doing even though he wasn’t saying anything. 

“Wha-well yeah?” he let out an unintentional disbelieving chuckle, his face was showing an abundance of emotions as his left hand that was clutching on the tablecloth was reallocated to your right thigh. You felt him squeezed it in warning, paired with a look of betrayal of whatever the hell it is you think you’re doing. “What do you think you’re doing?” he asked under his breath as he moved closer to you so nobody else beside you could hear him. You pretend you didn’t hear him though. 

Your dad passed the brownies to you hesitantly, but before you could take the brownies from him, Sukuna beat you to it, “I got it sir”.

Your lips formed into a thin line as you looked at him amusingly, sitting there guilt-free as if you didn’t just ruin your family’s perception of him. You watch him scramble around to get the brownies when you notice he chose the one that was cut into the biggest size, he dropped one to your plate, then two, and three. 

“Babe, that’s enough” 

Sukuna ignored you, before he quickly put one on his plate. “Can you pass the vanilla ice cream as well?”, your brother who had just dumped a chunk of ice cream on top of his brownie passed him the bucket. You thought he was about to put it on his due to the ridiculous amount he scooped but it plopped down on yours instead. 

“Babe?! It’s too much”, again he pretended to be deaf to your complaints and dug into his plate instead. 

You saw your brother from the corner of your eyes, who had been watching in disappointment (at you) and shakes his head, “you know you’re fucking evil for that”. 

“Language” your mom who has been silent warns him. 

“Does he know it’s a trend? I’m judging by his reaction, he does not, does he?” Sukuna looked up from his plate, holding your brother’s gaze as he looked at him in pity. “It’s a trend” he announced in a flat tone. 

Sukuna's hand came up to his face, he pinched the bridge of his nose with his eyes closed, you saw the way his thumb and middle finger started massaging it in a circular motion before a low groan came out of his lips, “of course it is”. Once he opens his eyes and saw you sitting there with a sheepish smile on your face, looking as sweet as ever, hoping it will pass as a form of apology you offered, you know you fucked up when the corner of his lips didn’t as much as lift for a bit. 

His jaw clenches and then his tongue ran along the set of his top teeth before it broke into one single laugh. “Funny” but there wasn’t anything shown on his face that shows he was entertained with what you just pulled. You cleared your throat as you decided to focus on picking up the fork and dive into the mouthwatering dessert in front of you. 

You felt your boyfriend’s left arm on the back of your chair and then his body followed, moving closer towards you. You figured he was just reaching for his leather jacket that was draped on the back of your chair, while that did happen, you didn’t miss what he said as you felt his breath on the back of your neck, “You’re getting it after this. I hope you know what you’re in for”. 

You stiffened in your seat, your boyfriend’s posture was even more at ease than before, the damn habitual smirk replaced the friendly look he has been trying to possess. “The brownies are really good ma’am”, he smiles at your mom.

“Oh there she is!” His outburst of joy was shut down by your boyfriend, reminding your very mature brother of how loud he can be and to not disturb others. “Then tell me how many fingers am I holding up” 

“three? I’m not stupid” you swat his hand away, the action satisfied Satoru even more. “Sugu” you tilt your head to the side, trying to catch a glimpse of the man your heart craves. 

“I’m here baby”, Satoru was pushed aside by your boyfriend’s wider frame, while your brother was a tiny bit taller than him, your boyfriend’s body width and muscle mass was bigger. You reached out to him, making a grabby gesture as he approached you and stopped once his fingers were entangled with yours. He crouched down beside you therefore he could be level-headed with your sitting form, “How’re you feeling?” 

“I can think” Satoru busted a snort at your answer while your boyfriend kept on looking at you with that smitten look on his face, he hums. “But I can’t talk”, it’s true, the gauze kept on restraining you to talk freely, any more time and you might just lose your patience and let go.  

“Yeah? Does it bother you?” you nodded. “Well I’m sorry baby but you have to keep them in”. His thumbs never stopped soothing out the surface of your skin in comfort. His eyes never once strays from your face and you couldn’t help but internally cringe at the thought of your (probably) drooling face right now, you’re not sure because you couldn’t feel anything. Everything’s numb. 

“Why’re you lookin’ a’me?” you tried to untangle your right hand from his grasp, wanting to serve it as a barricade between your face and his vision, but failed miserably because Suguru was unwilling to let go. “Stoooppp”

“Cause I probably look ugly right now”

“True that” Your brother chimes in from the corner of the room, sipping delightfully on his matcha. You were used to his remarks of course, some banters with your brother was not a rare occurrence and that wasn’t even the worst thing, in fact, that’s considerately tame if it were to be compared with the other stuff he has ever said to you (and you said to him) but again, something about after effects, something about you feeling emotions tenfold than the usual, something that shouldn’t easily upset you yet you feel your bottom lips trembled. 

Suguru notices of course and before he could stop the damage, the dam broke and the first dramatic sob came out. “you’re so mean Toru”, your brother was taken back by your tear stricken face, this was the first time his bullshit of an insult actually got through you. Satoru was flabbergasted by it, he started taking big gulps of his matcha, which was a bad idea actually, “Is that matcha you drinkin’? You called me ugly and you drinkin’ matcha in front of me?!” your sobs grew louder. 

Satoru was about to open his mouth to defend himself but quickly shut it back once he saw the glare his best friend threw at him. Right, this is why he was against his best friend dating his little sister, because there he goes being your knight in shining armor instead of being on Satoru’s side. 

“Satoru doesn’t know what he’s talking about baby, you’re always beautiful” 

“Don’t lie t’me” 

“You don’t believe me?” you shake your head. “You look absolutely pretty right now though”. Your sobs turn into little sniffles as your breath starts regulating itself. Suguru used the back of his hand to wipe both of your cheeks. From the corner of your eyes, you could see Satoru pulling out some things from the pocket of his hoodie, your eyes squinted as you tried to make out what he was holding. 

Chocolates. 

Not just any brand of chocolate, it was your favorite. 

Soon the sniffles started picking up again and you whine, “I want that too”, you point towards your brother who’s greedily inhaling the chocolate, he didn’t stop munching on it even though he knows about your very unusual and highly emotional state. He enjoys it actually, getting under your skin by not doing much. 

Suguru? He wants to bang his best friend’s head to the nearest wall. 

“I can’t feel my mouth and it hurts I think and I’m very thirsty, I want matcha too and I’m starving, I haven't–have not eaten anything, I want that chocolate too and Toru is being very mean and I’m ugly so you don’t love me anymore…please don’t break up with me…” the last sentence came out as a whimper and Suguru’s heart clenched. 

His index finger brace on your chin, "Baby please bite on the gauze. You’re gonna bleed more if you keep on talking.” He used his other hand that was holding a tissue (since when did he have one?) to wipe your drool, “See? Lots of blood”. 

“I’m hungry”

“I know I’m sorry, but I promise in a couple hours you can eat”

“A couple?!” 

“S’what the doctor said” 

“Then I can eat chocolate?”

“No, it must be liquid. Probably broth”, he noticed your deflated gaze, “Don’t cry, you’re gonna bleed again baby” 

“But I want chocolate”, you tried to argue, of course you can’t woo your doctor out of this, but perhaps your boyfriend who has never said no to you will eventually surrender. 

“Sweetheart, I’m very sorry but your puppy eyes and pouting combo won’t work today”, he stood up from his crouching position, stopping halfway once his lips grazed on your forehead before he pressed a soft kiss on it. “You’re doing so good, we’re gonna go home just a bit more, yeah? Then we can watch your favorite show” 

“And then we can have sex?” 

The straightforwardness as well as how casual you said it made the room fall into a deafening silence, Satoru–whose mouth had not stopped moving (either to chew or spout some bullshit)--finally stopped. Suguru was taken back, and then the corner of his lip tugged up and it broke into a boyish grin, a sudden rush of smug decorate his face, “Yeah, whatever my pretty baby wants”
