but darry thinks he’s a big brother still, he’s just been left in charge these past few months.
darry who’s still waiting for their parents to walk through that door vs pony who’s already come to terms with them never coming back
darry whos not trying to be so mean but at the same time its fine. this isn't the meanest hes ever been to either of his brothers but its fine because their parents will be back soon to make it even. vs ponyboy comparing darry his guardian to his father and his father was never as mean as darrys being so somethings just not right.
ponyboy asking permission to go places bc he knows parents are supposed to know your plans for the day vs darry who hesitates with a confused frown before always saying yes bc ponyboy’s never needed his permission before doing something before
darry who stays up late every night waiting to do lists for the next day and glancing at the clock as it ticks later and later, subconsciously anticipating his parents return. waiting for them to burst through the door and collapse on the couch like they did after every date night
darry making sure pony and soda go to bed at a reasonable time on weekdays just in case his parents return home earlier than usual
darry not realizing their actually never coming home until johnny and dally die vs ponyboy asking if johnny can come over for dinner two nights after his makeshift funeral
In the earlier scene at the drive in when Johnny stands up to Dally and Ponyboy says “if it had been me, or Two-Bit, or Soda or Steve, or anyone but Johnny, Dally would have flattened him without a moment's hesitation,” he knows what he’s talking about. Because “that had happened before.” More than once, as implied by “long and painful experience,” which makes you wonder how long and how painful exactly, considering Pony has just turned 14 and Dally is almost four years older. (Pony turned 14 in July, Dally would have been 18 in November)
It’s clearly a pattern, since Pony has gotten into the habit of being apprehensive of Dally’s moods. When they look for Dally at Buck’s: “He (Buck) was pretty well crocked, which made me apprehensive. If Dally was drunk and in a dangerous mood.…”
The story makes it clear that Dally cares about Pony, but that doesn’t mean he shows it in a way that’s palatably soft. He’s a rough character who’s had a rough life and as a result he can be aggressive and violent and “dangerous” and even mean, in a way that fandom often sanitizes or outright erases.
Dally’s behavior toward Pony is no exception, which is the aspect of canon where I see the most fandom denial. If we take Pony at his word, Dally has canonically hit everyone in the gang including himself, except Johnny. Which doesn’t mean Dally is softer with Johnny either, it just means that Johnny is the except to that one particular behavior.
This doesn’t erase Dally’s good qualities. The contradiction and the duality of his character is central to it. He has to have these flaws for Pony to be surprised by his behavior later on and to come around to seeing the good in him tragically too late. But that doesn’t mean those flaws aren’t there, or aren’t real. The part of Dally that lashes out at his friends, including Ponyboy, the part of Dally that made a significantly younger kid in his own gang fear his moods and his violence “from long and painful experience” are real. You might even say it’s so real, it scares you.

Ponyboy cried the hardest out of all the brothers the night his parents died. Not the, "oh my eyes are just watering" type of crying, but the uncontrollable, full body sobs type of crying.
He ended up crying so hard that he threw up everywhere, including all over himself.
Darry brought him into the bathroom to help him take a bath. He helped Pony take his shirt off and ended throwing it away out of pure exhaustion. Pony was too distraught to realize at the time.
The next morning he realized what Darry had done. Darry had thrown away the last shirt he ever hugged his parents in.

and what if I say that my most evil headcanon for the curtis brothers is that darry is the last one to die out of the brothers just like how he was the first one to come into the world, he's the last one to go out of it and what if I say that sodapop is the first one to die between the brothers

As Pony sat alone in the quiet house, he curled himself up in the blanket his mom had made for Johnny to use whenever he stayed over. It still smelled like his best friend. Tears trickled down Pony's cheeks as he tried to convince himself Johnny was out there. He hadn't left. He would come back. "Johnny... Please. Please come back... We need you. I need you."
Starting a writing journal, and I wrote a little foreword on the first page in hopes that one day it gets passed to my kids, my grandkids, and they can understand what truly went into the pages beyond.
I could care less but say it like you could actually care less because you already care too much
Like Darry could care less about Pony getting a B on his history exam because he already cared too much about Pony's grades being perfect because maybe he could be the one to get out of Tulsa
Like Soda could care less about Darry falling asleep getting his back rubbed because he cared too much about making sure he got some sleep because he didn't know if Darry slept at night alone when Soda was making sure Pony slept
Like Pony could care less about Soda being the best brother because he cared too much thinking Darry wasn't ever going to be like a brother since he took over being the parent so ofcourse Soda had to be the perfect brother
Like Johnny could care less about making sure his parents didn't end each other because he cared too much since he already lost the Curtis parents and he didn't know if he could lose his biological parents even though they were far from perfect
Like Two-Bit could care less about staying in school because the real reason he stayed in school was because he cared too much about making sure Socs didn't harass Pony and Johnny
Like Steve could care less about how Pony treated Darry and Soda different but he cared too much because he saw the affect it had on Soda when everyone else was blind to it
Like Dally could care less about taking Pony and Johnny with him to the Nightly Double or around town because he cared too much about making sure they could make it out on the streets alone if they needed to

PSA if you get bit or scratched by a cat, wash the wound THOUROUGHLY!!!! Let water run over it until you think you're gonna lose your last braincell, then clean it with rubbing alcohol, and bandage with triple antibiotic/neosporin/etc for at least 15-30 minutes to let the stuff do its job. Cats harbor a lot of bacteria in their nails and teeth thus your wound is more susceptible to becoming infected.
