Day 9 - Christmas Tree Decorating
Pairing: Tokoyami Fumikage x fem!black/poc!reader
Synopsis: Mina pairs you and Tokoyami to work on decorating the Christmas tree, and Dark Shadow makes it his job to expose his companions crush on you.

A/N: i can't believe i almost forgot to post the fic i was so excited about 😤 but here it is! Some fluff for our underrated emo/alt king!!
In the spirit of Christmas, Mina had gathered everyone to decorate the dorms for the winter holiday. She even convinced Aizawa to make it an assignment - surprisingly - so that the students had to do it. Of all the people in Class 2A, Tokoyami was probably the one to dread the activity the most.
It was not the fact he didn’t like christmas, but Tokoyami wasn’t a very social person. Therefore he wasn’t too happy when he heard that he would be forced to participate in the decoration or risk getting a low grade. To be fair, it would’ve been fine, if Dark Shadow wasn’t in an unusually bratty mood.
“Ah, Tokoyami!” Mina called out to the male, who had been leaning against a wall due to not having been assigned anything to do by the pinkette. Now that she was here, though he was sure that whatever task he was given, Dark Shadow would make it absolute hell. Tokoyami could very much hear his companion cackling in the background, planning out his assaults.
“You’re gonna be decorating the tree….with (y/n)!”
“She’s already got the decorations by the tree-”
“-and with Dark Shadow you can help reach the higher parts of the tree that she can’t get.”
This was going to be absolutely horrid. Dark Shadow was already plotting ways to embarrass his other half in front of the girl he was very fond of. Tokoyami knew this, and begrudgingly made his way to the insanely tall evergreen tree where you were working.
‘Your necks getting hot, Fumi, I wonder why?’ the high pitched voice of Dark Shadow said as the shadow emerged from his companion, a devilish smirk appearing on him. Tokoyami groaned, seeing that the shadow had already begun his teasing. “Please don’t embarrass me…”He mumbled. “Me, embarrass you? Never!” Cried Dark Shadow, feigning hurt.
Tokoyami saw you and the heat creeping up his neck made the feathers shaping his head hot and uncomfortable. You had your hair tied up in a messy puff ball, curls all over the place, sporting an oversized hoodie and leggings for comfort. He thanked the gods he had a bird head instead of a human face, that way he didn’t have to face the humility of people seeing how flushed he would get from a mere crush.
Tokoyami was a bit hesitant at first, not sure what to do or how to decorate. On the other hand, you were an expert in tree decorating, and gave the boy directions on how to lay the garland and tinsel, where to hang the ornaments, and the secret places to stash candy canes from the rest of the class. Tokoyami soon broke from the hesitancy and found himself relaxing around you, albeit still quite invisibly flushed being in your presence. There was also still a lingering suspicion that Dark Shadow would pop up and say or do something humiliating to the hero-to-be.
“What’s this doing in here?” You voiced, shuffling through the last box of decorations. You pulled out a sprig of green twigs wrapped in red ribbon. Tokoyami came over to look at the foreign object in your hands. “What is it, exactly?” He asked, curious as to what purpose the bundle of green twigs held.
“It’s a mistletoe. Mina might’ve dropped it in here.” You replied. “Mistletoes are pretty common in America. You put it on, like, a door frame, per se, and whoever two people that are caught under it have to kiss. Well, not have to, consent is key after all-”
The more your explanation droned on, the more the dreaded pit in his stomach ached. Tokoyami knew what Dark Shadow was about to do, and the fact that he was too slow to stop the shadow’s antics made it that much more horrible.
Dark Shadow had swooped in so fast, you had nearly missed it from blinking. The shadow took the mistletoe and held it above the two teenagers, mischievously chuckling.
“I was wondering where you were, Dark Shadow. Were you plotting?” You asked, a nervous laugh coming from your lips.
“You have to kiss now, right?” He chirped, knowing full well what he was doing, Tokoyami tried to get his shadow companion to drop the act, but his attempts were futile.
“I am so sorry, (y/n), please forgive him-”
“It’s fine, it’s fine, really-”
Both of you had heat creeping up your necks, invisible blushes burning their faces and ears. “We don’t have to, Tokoyami. Consent is required.” You said, aiming your last sentence to the still chuckling shadow above the two of you.
“I...wouldn’t object…” Tokoyami muttered, head tilted downward in embarrassment. It was a slight shock to you - Tokoyami was never the type to jump into something like this. You wondered if there was a motive behind it, but nevertheless, you complied.
You cupped the sides of Tokoyami’s face, hands caressing the feathers that adorned it, and quickly placed a light peck at the line where his feathers and beak met. Though it was short and simple. Tokoyami felt himself steadily climbing to cloud nine from it. The sensitive feathers picked up on the softness of your lips and the gentleness of your hold, and he swore he could stay in it for ever.
Dark Shadow’s childish teasing brought the bird boy back to reality, albeit Tokoyami was more fixated on the words coming from your lips.
“I hope that wasn’t too embarrassing?”
“No, no not at all. I...quite enjoyed it, actually…”
Tokoyami had to suffer with Dark SHadow’s pestering after that, but it was very much worth it to be able to get a kiss from you. Perhaps he’d hang around at a mistletoe at the dorm party in hopes of earning another kiss, or even returning the favor.
