DISCUSSION BOARD 6.1 (Individual Task)

Hometown Cha Cha Cha is a heartwarming Korean drama released in August of this year and has gained a lot of attention and popularity during the past few months. It aired on tvN and made available for streaming on Netflix giving international audiences a chance to keep up with the drama with its weekly episodes. 

The life lessons from this kdrama aren’t the only things that made its mark to the audiences’ heart, but the production errors as well, especially to those who have keen eyes and noticed several technical errors. In fact, these flaws have also been talked about on social media platforms such as TikTok.

While watching episode 14 of the drama, I immediately noticed an error with this particular scene where Hong Du-Sik offered to carry Gam-ri on his back. There was an obvious mistake on the location and we can clearly differentiate it through the medium long shot and long shot of the scene. In the medium long shot, we can see that both characters are near the docks where there are boats and cars parked. However, when the scene was pulled back into a long shot, the location changed and we cannot see the cars parked in the previous shot. Although some people argue that they have the same location and were only shot in different angles, if the situation does concern camera angles, it was a poor choice from the director since it gives an impression that both scenes were shot in different locations.

From the discussions on different Filipino narratives we had last synchronous meeting, I have learned that culture and realities affect the way people digest what is being communicated to them.

It also helped that we dived into the past by discussing The Myth of the Sleeping Hero: Three Philippine Cases, Salidummay’s Hybridity and Congregational Singing, and Rizal’s Morga and Views of Philippine History to better understand discussions on Selective Memory and Collective Forgetting and Analyzing Gender Representation in Philippine Print Ads. With all these discussed, I learned how our realities have a large impact on the way we understand and perceive things, therefore, it's a great help in the way we weave all these culture, information, and history into a cohesive story.

Every image created and presented tells a story and message, just like how we perceive the realities we see in advertisements and the media. Collectively, all the things discussed help Communication students like us how to be effective storytellers.

My thoughts on COCA-COLA #KababaeMongTao Kaya Kahit Ano Kaya Mo Campaign: 

“Coca-Cola's #KababaeMongTao campaign hits the nail by being relevant in a time where gender equality is encouraged. This campaign recognizes the qualities and strengths of women by breaking the common stigma of what women can't and shouldn't do. Women should not be contained within the meek and dainty image society created; women can be tough, loud, and defiant. Women can be everything they want to be and more.”
