Reminder to you and everyone you follow: back up your devices. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Now.
I back my computer up every six months and was planning to this week. I procrastinated by a day, and my SSD corrupted* β I lost six months of photos, including old photos of my life from now-deleted tumblr post, thousands of words of my writing, and game save files (luckily I emailed my two main Minecraft worlds to a friend last week so I only lost a few days of work). Not to mention that now my Windows will be up-to-date, 2Β½ years further ahead than mine had been. I'm going to have to battle ai back when I get my computer.
If you make a lot of art, back your work up way more often.
Please.
*Also, maybe don't download exports of any of your blogs, even small ones. That's what corrupted my drive. Literally and directly.
I feel pretty uncomfortable telling people not to take exports of their blogs, though Iβm sorry that happened to you. Backing up and backing up your backups is a very good idea, though!
You think you donβt need to do it right now; this is the devil talking.
I said for years I needed to back up all my baby photos and videos. Then my house burned down, and I have no evidence of my childhood whatsoever. I now spray fully formed like Athena during the advent of social media.
Back it up now. Do it for me, please. Do it for all the memories I have lost. Donβt live with the regret I have.
You think you donβt need
to do it right now; this is
the devil talking.
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
i think people really under sell the physical side effects of mental health disorders sometimes. like sure the depression and anxiety may be 'just in your head' but when what's in your head happens to disrupts your sleep schedule and prevent you from going outside regularly and eating consistent meals and exercising and generally taking care of your body. well it sure takes its toll huh.
Look them in the eye and tell them how Joe Biden wanted to codify reproductive rights, ensuring them forever, but he was old. So, you voted for the Party that has repeatedly said they would ban abortion, and some of whom want to repeal the right of women to vote! Or, (just as bad) you decided not to vote at all.

so I found that secret location in North Horn.
We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.
"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.
It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.

So--when I was in my mid-twenties and the Disaster Ex tried to make me kill myself, the local mental hospital didn't have any beds open in the usual ward for attempted suicides.
What they did have was a single spare bed in the small, comfortable, quiet, wildly expensive facility for girls with eating disorders.
They asked each of the young women currently living there if it was acceptable that I might occupy a bed in one of the rooms for a while, just the long weekend while I was waiting for a doctor's evaluation. I hadn't been violent, I had gone with the cops without putting up any fight at all, and I was still and I was small and all those things were sufficient for me to be deemed safe. So up they sent me, to somewhere high in Western Psych, above the smells and sounds of the denser-packed wards, above where the care workers were harried and frustrated, to a gentle space with seven or eight young women in it.
I was five foot three, and I weighed about 115 pounds. I was underweight for my frame, as a fair amount of that weight was martial arts muscle; I would probably have been ten pounds heavier if I were healthy, with the amount of activity I got.
I was at least two inches shorter than pretty much every other young woman there, six or seven inches shorter than one of them, and I had at least thirty pounds on several of them. The tallest was not allowed to walk, she had to sit in a wheelchair and be pushed around, because her condition was so advanced that the motion would undo what good her hard work had done.
And over the course of the four or five days I was there, multiple of them came up to me alone to quietly tell me that I had the *perfect* body, and they wished they could be as skinny as I was. That I needed to live, because I was beautiful, and if they were as beautiful as I was, they wouldn't need to be here.
Their eyes were on me all the time, in the hours that I wasn't sleeping. I spent a lot of time sleeping, and we took our meals separately (I not needing to be monitored while I ate, and not having my food weighed), but we spent a fair amount of time sitting around in the little shared living room space, talking about movies and magazines and books we'd loved, talking about our families. I didn't talk about my family; they didn't pry.
They were all so fucking nice.
And I could have broken any one of them over my narrow knee. They each thought they were bigger than I was.
Their brains lied to them, every time they looked at a mirror. Every time they looked down at their own thighs. What they saw was not what I could see. They had bright, beautiful eyes in dark hollows, and I could count their vertebrae, could see their ribs winging when they breathed, could see the motion of every tendon on the backs of their hands.
They weren't celebrities. They weren't being paid to have particular bodies, nor were they deep in the toxic sea of having strangers take photos of them to sell to gossip rags if they stepped out of doors in old jeans. They had families and loved ones who were doing everything that they could to protect them, to uplift them and help them be healthy. They were just everyday people--a nurse, a couple of students, a couple of recent college grads, a young woman who had decided it was time to really get help because she wanted to be a mother--and still they'd been so injured by the neverending fucking deluge of body-image bullshit that they were dying of it.
That was in 2009. Things are worse now. I think about them still. I hope that they're all right.
And in case some people aren't aware: anorexia is deadly. There is a point at which your body looses the ability to digest food and you are no longer capable of improving.
What's heartbreaking to me most of all is that these women have gone past the point of "thin pretty" and landed into the territory of "survivor of a major famine." I expect to hear Sarah McLaughlin singing and asking me to donate 50 cents a day.
Also: The GLP-1 doesn't automatically do this. All it does is shut off the hunger signal to make it easier to diet. You still have to consciously decide to stop eating.

That's nice, dear.
Shopped this around a few Discord channels. This is the second draft of the FFXIV Skill Level Chart.
This started from my assertion that "casual" has two different meanings - it can apply to both skill levels, but also time commitments. The reason people complain that SE isn't making enough "casual" content" is because they only think about one dimension of casual.
Time limited high skill players are still doing Savage, they're just only meeting twice a week with another time limited group and don't bother with all the fluff extra stuff that the Time Unlimited Midcore people are eating up.
nero tol scaeva may not be my favorite ffxiv character but he's definitely one of the FUNNIEST ffxiv characters
highlights include:
killing the lights and fucking booking it when you defeat him, and then just straight up deserting the garlean army with absolutely no remorse or hesitation
leaving the praetorium and almost immediately posting up under a streetlight in a stupid outfit in revenant's toll like some kind of clown hooker, waiting to direct wol to the crystal tower questline JUST so he could involve himself, too
showing up in the middle of a major city not even slightly in disguise to walk up to a meeting of world leaders and say "now it's clear the problem you're having is that you haven't involved MEEEEEE"
accepting wearing an ironworks uniform but dying it red because #aesthetics
magical girl armor transformation
bonus: cid keeping his sunglasses and then just silently handing them back afterward as if they do this all the fucking time
getting attacked and injured but just refusing to tell anyone about it until he literally collapsed
sneaking out of the infirmary but not before forging cid's signature on his expense report
telling his fellow garleans that if all they were gonna do is whine and refuse any solutions to their problems they could just fucking die for all he cares
truly one of the characters of all time. he's like a horrible beetle man. i love him.
Truthfully this is why I love the bastard man and probably why Cid deals with his shenanigans.
A free-range group therapy called "get herded, idiot", where you and everyone in your group is set loose to run around on an open field while a highly trained shepherd dog tries to keep you all in one group. I am not sure what benefit this would have for anyone involved.
This would fix everyone involved including the dog

The summoned hero gathered his party/harem and said, "I could understand maybe one or two of you being attracted to me. But all 5 of you? With seemingly no infighting? Tell me what's really going on."
The oldest, a grizzled veteran of a thousand campaigns with crow's feet at her eyes, stepped forward. She looked at the younger men and women in the party, as if asking for permission, then faced the hero squarely again.
"Maybe you should stop using the Sword of Inexplicable Attractiveness? I know it was a gift from our king, but it's getting..... really hard to say no to you."
"What?"
The hero pulled his sword out of the scabbard, confused. He looked at the sword, then looked at the woman, then looked at the sword again, before dropping the sword on the ground.
A collective sigh of relief came out of the group. The cleric groaned, sitting on the ground, and pulled out his rosary to start praying to his god for deliverance.
The youngest woman, the king's daughter and a skilled swordswoman in her own right, carefully stepped around the sword and approached the hero normally for the first time since she'd been assigned to his party.
"I told my father it was a stupid idea to give you that sword," she said. "He believed that the summoned hero was going to need help holding a party together, and that is the purpose of that sword. To allow a king to inspired loyalty in his subjects during coronation or during a big speech. It's got a spell on it that gets stronger the more the wielder and any onlookers are exposed to it. Its not meant for long term use!"
"Why didn't you say anything before!?"
"Because the spell forbade us until you brought it up." She looked at him, and where the once nearly worshipful simpering expression had been was a much more clear eyed face. "Such is the nature of a charm spell. But it was getting harder and harder to restrain ourselves." She took a deep breath. "I think we'll be a better party without trying to use an artificial means of creating a leader."
The quiet caster mumbled something about "concentrating on the spells again finally" and the bard was already strumming a ditty about being freed from the curse of liking another man.
"I think you're right, princess," the summoned hero said. "I had no idea why you guys kept assuming I was supposed to be the leader when the Commander has been right here all along, but I thought maybe it was something to do with the summoning ritual."
"Nope, my father's stupid sword did it." The princess turned to the commander. "Ma'am, would you please destroy this national artifact? Hero, we'll get you a new sword at the next village."
"With pleasure." The commander took her axe and struck the enchanted sword in half, destroying the runes that powered it.
The princess recovered the two halves, and then handed them back to the hero.
"Don't worry," she whispered in his ear. "I still like you anyway, but now I finally don't have any competition!"
a couple weeks ago I told a streamer that Lalafells come in three flavors:
sugar (sometimes sugar and spice)
gremlin
bastard
and I still can't think of a counter example that doesn't land in one of those three categories
