HAIL COLUMBIA (America 250)

To celebrate 250 Years of American Independence, I drew Crawford, a US Marine, a Boarding Party Seaman, plus a British and French soldier, including Columbia herself singing "Hail, Columbia"... The Brit ain't handling it, while the Frenchman just swayed along with the rhythm.

There are two versions of the artwork:

- The first version is a tribute to J.C. Leyendecker and his illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post.

- The second version is a Blue background with a gigantic 250 behind the characters, and in front of them are a bundle of banners with the words "HAIL COLUMBIA" and the years 1776 and 2026 colored in gold.

“Being an Officer’s hard work, Alex. It’s like watching your OWN children. It’s like I’m being a father of a dozen kids.” Barry said, comparing taking care of his troops to a parent looking after his children. I mean, the similarities are there, and both people need to be responsible in taking care and disciplining them. It truly is a grueling task, but a responsibility to hold.

“At least I have seven men, Barry.” I said. “It’s a bit easy for me since it’s just a group of seven, even one of them’s a Lance Corporal.”

“Lucky guy, you are.” Barry smirked. “Had you become an Ensign in my company, We would have behaved like parents. I’m the dad, and you being the mother. It’s like this Company is one giant family. I just need help from everybody in it. I am not strong enough.”

“Always think about me, then James, Michael, and even your family too. They inspired you.” I said. “Don’t forget Captain Pilkington, He remarked that you have potential to be a high-ranking officer, and he’s proud of you.”

“Even you too, Alex. He promoted you to Sergeant after your performance in Boot Camp. Don’t forget about that.” Reminded Barry. “Anyway, Let’s have sandwiches, I’m already craving for one.”

In reality, this is something for 4 July 2026 for the 250th anniversary of American Independence.

What to expect in the final product:

The final product will contain two versions of the artwork. One has the characters behind a blue background with a gigant 250, and in the foreground, there will be a large banner reading "HAIL COLVMBIA!" with the years 1776 and 2026 on the top and bottom. Behind the text in the foreground are a few streamers with the colors of red, white and blue along with a few stars.

The characters in the background are William H. Crawford, Duke Nukem as a Marine, and then Lionel Richie as a US Navy Boarding Party Seaman. The characters in the foreground are a British soldier of the 23rd Regiment of Foot, Columbia (the personification of America), and a French Soldier of the Garde Nationale.

Originally, Columbia was supposed to be a French Peasant Girl, but was changed to Columbia to further give the context of the artwork. Columbia will wear a striped shirt and apron, a blue shawl with star patterns and a gold and white corset and white skirt.

A planned third version where the setting is on the USS Constitution was scrapped. It was going to rain and would have Duke Nukem, Lionel Richie, the British and French Soldier covered in blood to imply that they have been fighting Zombies.

Der Preußischer Stechschritt.

Just a drawing of a platoon of Prussian Soldiers marching to battle, nothing suspicious here... but the faces on some of the troops say otherwise.

The Goose-Step (German: Stechschritt) is a type of lockstep march used by the Germans in the 18th Century until the late-20th Century, starting from the Kingdom of Prussia and lastly used by the German Democratic Republic. At rare occasions, the Bundeswehr (The current form of the German Army) uses the Goose-step in some of their live drills, most notably in 2017 where it was executed by a live band complete with a platoon in a public event at Düsseldorf.

There are only a few countries that still use the goose-step, most notably Chile, which still holds Prussian traditions in many of their military parades. North Korea also uses a modified form of the goose-step which includes a slight bounce when soldiers march, and the extension of the leg is higher and less-relaxed compared to the traditional version where the steps are more relaxed.

[WIP] DER PREUSSISCHER STECHSCHRITT

What to see in the final product:

The final product itself would be a platoon of Prussian Soldiers belonging to the 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß marching down a street in the iconic Prussian Goose Step (Stechschritt), while two women offer flowers to a soldier in the background which is a tradition done by Germans whenever a soldier leaves for their duty. The city itself would be based on Leipzig, and there would be streamers and flags which strengthens national pride within the Prussian People.

There will be flowers stuffed on the belts, webbing and rifles of the Prussian Soldiers since they were given flowers earlier prior to their march down the street. The flowers present are the Edelweiss, Marigold, Dandelions as well as Daisies; and the iconic Oak Leaf will be among the bundle of flowers. Some of them too will be on the ground.

Streamers would rain over the parade.

The Prussian Officer is Karl (1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß Officer/Unnamed Prussian Officer), also known as the guy who just dies to a zombified Blücher in Kaub.

The whole artwork would be finished in around one to two weeks since I wanted it to have a very crisp and finished look, and I've always wanted to draw the Prussians goose stepping as it's a tradition that they have adopted since the 18th Century. Nowadays, the goose step is commonly associated with Nazis (the obvious), Communist-aligned nations (China, North Korea) and Russians (they use it in their grand parades).

"You idiots! He's a Boy! He just has a strong resemblance to his mother!"

"I don't think so. We should send HER home! That's clearly a girl."

"Prove it, you incompetent nincompoop! I'm a more experienced surgeon than you!"

TROLL IN THE COAL MINE | [G&B x Harry Potter... again]

BEAUXBATONS GRADUATE DEFEATS TROLL IN RONCHAMP COAL MINE, 3 February 1814

On the eastern side of France, the muggle workers of the Ronchamp coal mine reported the presence of a troll in the mineshafts. The National Guard was summoned to investigate, and upon sighting the troll, all soldiers panicked as they have not seen one before, except for one who was a Graduate of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. The graduate in question is Bernard Delacour, an Officer in Napoleon's National Guard. Delacour used the Levitation Charm on the troll's club and dropped it on its head rendering it unconscious. Luckily, the muggle sappers decapitated it with their axes.

The artwork itself is based in the famous Bathroom Troll fight in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. As a bonus, a Bayonet is stuck on the troll's nose as a reference to how Harry jabbed his own wand into the bathroom troll's nose, where in the end, his wand becomes clobbered up with troll bogeys.

The retreating French soldier on the left resembles Harry Potter. Both figures have rounded-frame glasses and scars on their foreheads.

The unit depicted is the Garde Nationale, which is not in the game. Had they been added in the game, the Jean could have been a soldier of the Garde Nationale.

Bernard Delacour is named after Fleur Delacour, a character who appears in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Originally, this was supposed to be a landscape painting, but it ended up becoming a Portrait format.

A Sabre-Briquet was originally going to appear on the troll's back, but wasn't added in because I forgot to draw it in.

The setting was supposed to take place in Kaub's Cellar, but the troll was too big to fit in a seemingly-small ceiling area like the cellar. Another setting was the Catacombs, but the location itself also has a small ceiling area. The end result ended up becoming the historic Ronchamp Coal Mines.

PRUSSIAN WIZARDS REVEAL SELVES TO MUGGLE COLLEAGUES, 12 March 1814

As the Blight rages on with He-who-must-not-be-named's army of undead and followers, there is another incident involving Wizards revealing themselves to their muggle colleagues in a Military Organization. Prussian twins Karl Kristoph and Karl Heinz Mackensen were sighted by their muggle colleagues in the Black Forest using magic to ward off advancing undead. Their surgeon, who is a female crossdressing Squib also witnesses the incident. The Prussian Ministry has seeked refuge with the British Ministry of Magic, and discussions were held concerning the fates of the twin wizards.

The whole concept of the artwork is inspired by the Forbidden Forest which was featured plenty of times in the Harry Potter books and movies.

The original concept was Diagon Alley, which is located in London. The second idea was a recreation of the Firestorm that Professor Dumbledore casts in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince where Harry and Dumbledore fight off the Zombie-like Inferi inside the cave where Helga Hufflepuff's Cup is located.

The female surgeon on the left is a Squib. Squibs are non-magical persons born from pure-blood wizards. Mr. Filch (The School Caretaker) is an example of a Squib.

The spells cast by both 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß officers are Expelliarmus (Disarming Charm) and Stupefy (Stun Charm).

Speaking of Officers. The two 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß officers are twins, just like Fred and George Weasley.

He-who-must-not-be-named is not Lord Voldemort (Tom Marvolo Riddle), since he hasn't been born yet until 1926. Instead, it's another Dark Lord who summons an Army of the dead to terrorize both Wizard and Muggle worlds. The identity of this wizard is a Turkish half-blood by the name of Feray Özkan.
