Learning this week more about intersectionality was a nice refresher on several (sadly) still incredibly relevant topics. It does not matter how much we know, or how much we have already read - these topics are still so important to keep fresh in our minds. Though topics like #metoo and trolls on the internet were definitely things I was previously well versed on, it was exciting to see things I was more unfamiliar with. (Such as Social media and internet not cause of political polarisation and The power of Black Twitter.) I also found the article on Facebook's 'Town Hall' really interesting - however, when trying it out myself I unfortunately could find no such feature.

This kid is a millionaire before he even leaves high school...making six figures a week - using what he calls The Power of Social Media.
As this week included content on the #metoo movement, I find this photo for (and link to) the Global Fund for Women website to be incredibly appropriate.
The co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology tells Bill Whitaker social media companies are profiting off Americans' online anger.
This article was written immediately before the 2022 midterm election and looks deeply into the way social media affects political elections. Specifically how it "polarized the political climate" during that political year. Though it is more than a year old, I think it is just as relevant today as it was then as we have a round of major elections coming up. It is a reminder that in an online environment, the extremes, (both left and right,) will always be the most prevalent. Though they only represent 7-8% of the actual population, they are the ones who are most vocal online.
"Bill Whitaker: So the extremes have been handed the power to dominate even though they are fewer in number?
Jonathan Haidt: That's right. Exactly."
Haidt goes on to explain that the majority of the moderates stay silent, "afraid to question the dominant view.
