How could i not?

Everything I like everything about her. Genuinely i could go on forever (and have probably) about Madelyne. But if i have to choose, i like how stubborn she is. She doesn’t let anyone tell her who she is or what to do, she refuses to ever go away quietly, she will be seen and she will be heard, even if she has to burn the world down to achieve it. She’s a survivor forever.

As I’ve said before, I understand why Alex Summers is important to her, but he’s really annoying and I’d rather not have him in frame when I’m reading about Maddie, thanks

I really enjoy her friendship with Illyana, I like how well they’re able to understand each other I think it’s something they both really need. I also enjoyed her interactions with Dani in New Mutants and with Storm in Uncanny. And I *desperately* need her to meet Gabby Kinney, like please please please I need them to meet

I don’t think Madelyne takes care of herself very well. She has recurring nightmares, sometimes multiple a night, which makes it less painful to just not sleep. And you can see her ribs (her outfits don’t exactly make it difficult), so I don’t think she eats often or enough. Maybe it’s leftover from the ~2years she spent alone post-first resurrection, when food might’ve been harder for her to access, maybe it’s because she craves control and food is something she can do that with. I think she tends to get very stuck in her work- whether it’s learning magic, plotting against the x-men, running the embassy- because it makes her feel real and it’s a distraction from other things she doesn’t want to think about. But she’ll be focused to the point of neglecting other things she needs, and then she’ll stand up from her desk and the entire room is spinning and fuzzy. I also think she has an iron/ vitamin d deficiency

Idk how unpopular this is but I don’t think her and Jean have to ‘make nice’, I think it’s ok if there’s always hurt and pain and complex emotions there that don’t ever go away, they don’t have to be friends and that’s fine. And Maddie absolutely nrver has to forgive Scott, like he’s not even apologised but if he did she shouldn’t have to accept anything from his deadbeat ass

And then take Jean Grey telling her 'you don't need to do that. Not for me, never for me.' when the two of them inevitably get into an argument and Emma tries making it up to Jean with sex.

You can argue that yeah, Jean has only really been with Scott, but that doesn't matter- she's been in a stable, loving relationship for years.

Contrast that with Emma, who has had horrible experiences with romance, and even platonic love in general. But focusing on the romantic part, god, she even acknowledges that no matter how much she spends on herself, she still ranks beneath a corpse to Scott. But Emma has infinitely more experience than Jean in terms of sex. She's had to use her body for survival.

So initially, you have the division of one of them being so experienced in love, and one of them being so experienced in sex.

But when you look into it further, we see that Jean actually... has never gotten to experiment. Does she even know that she's truly been in love? @mlady-magnolia (sry for the tag) compares them to a high school romance, which I absolutely agree with omg. Typically your first romantic relationship feels (at the time) like the best thing you've ever felt. It's all highs, and even the lows are enjoyable. But it's your first relationship, and typically, they don't last.

In their case though, it does last (kinda), and I believe this is due to the pressure Jean puts on herself to be perfect, which also means to have the perfect relationship. It doesn't help that everyone *adores* the two of them.

There's so much talk about Emma being lonely (which yes, she is, incredibly), but I think that Jean is lonely as well. She hasn't gotten to experiment, hasn't been allowed to love anyone else. If there's ever an attraction to someone other than Scott, she shoves that away before it can even become a thought. So she stays with Scott, even when she no longer loves him.

She's jealous of Emma, who she sees as free. Emma, who isn't bound to be perfect, who's allowed to be messy and shady and morally grey.

And then you have Emma, who in turn is jealous of Jean, who has everything she wants. Not Scott, anymore- she's long over him. But Jean has someone who loves her, who would do anything for her. Emma longs to be loved, I think. She longs to be someone's first choice, without condition.

Emma's spent so much of her life proving herself and fighting for her position and proving that she's worth it, and can deliver, that people do want her, but only because of the things she'll provide for them. And I'm not saying that people don't want to use Jean either, they definitely do, but Jean has friends who love her. Emma essentially has no one who fully fully trusts her, or has her as their first choice.

So when they get together, it's going to be messy as fuck.

YES!! YOU GET IT!! I'm relatively new to the Emmajean circle (like I only really started getting into them properly half a year ago) so I don't know if people like to ignore Scott, but I personally see him as so important for emma and jean's relationship!!

I think there's a part of Emma that did love Scott, or at least what he represented, but that she was never truly in love with Scott Summers, but rather in love with Jean Grey. And that she was ALSO jealous of the relationship they had, regardless of the parties in it. She just wants someone to love her,,, arghhghgh.

Emma has the freedom Jean doesn't get to have, and Jean has the love that Emma believes she doesn't deserve.

They're both awake, and at this point in her life Emma has realised that she's irrevocably in love with Jean Grey, and therefore her life is forfeit, because there's no way on Earth that perfect perfect Jean would ever love someone like her.

And Jean's awake, because she's become so inundated with thoughts about Emma that she can't sleep, and it's the first time she's not been able to ignore a thought about feeling something for someone that isn't Scott, and she doesn't know what to do.

Augh, Jean was just the X-Woman for so long. She deserves the world, she’s just so damn good. Heart of gold, fire and life incarnate, and not afraid to show it. We love our Marvel Girl.

But it’s slightly deeper than that. Sorry, you’re getting a mini essay here because dormant thoughts have been triggered

For Emma, sex is control. She craves control, needs it, because for so long she didn’t have it. She was basically forced into sex work because she was broke and starving in New York, sexually abused by Shaw and the Hellfire Club, and chewed up and spat out by the system. She clawed her way to the top of the food chain through sheer will and grit, using sex as a way to manipulate and control the men around her. Even to this day, she dresses the way she does to get a reaction out of people, to get them to lower their guard and allow her telepathy to affect them easier. She puts on the veneer of the domineering and sexy femme fatale to get what she wants because that’s just what works and that was all she knew.

Sex is control, so Emma dominates. She controls sex. She doesn’t let it control her anymore because she’s no longer that girl on the pole in the Hellfire Club.

And that’s why I think that sometimes, in those vulnerable moments at night alone with only Jean as her witness, she lets go of that control and gives the reins over to her lover. Clinging onto control is exhausting, but letting go is even harder. Yet, if it’s letting go for Jean, then Emma can do it. She trusts Jean, after all, so she slowly loosens her grip and cedes that precious bit of control over her life to her beloved.

Sex is control, but sometimes Emma allows herself to let go of that control during sex. It’s safe. It’s managed. It’s supervised. They have systems in place that don’t leave her spiralling and lost. It’s a controlled environment where Emma can enjoy not managing every little moment and simply enjoy sex and her body as something other than a tool.

As for Jeanie, she was always labelled the golden child. Goody-two-shoes Jean. Miss Marvel Girl with innocent bright eyes and a high school sweetheart. She was never allowed to be truly herself, always repressed, always unable to indulge. Scott didn’t want her to party, stopped her from letting go and having fun, and Jean let herself get boxed into being little Miss Perfect.

And sex was just a natural part of that. Don’t indulge. Don’t let them know what you want. Smile and please. That’s all Jean knew.

So, to have Emma — perfect, confident Emma who lets the world know exactly what she wants and is unafraid of her body — take her to bed, to show her that it’s okay to enjoy these things, to enjoy her body, to hold her down and whisper soft praise for her? It’s good. It’s perfect. It’s freeing.
