I just saw a take that Veilguard just 'killed Southern propaganda about the North, it didn't kill the worldbuilding' and just. No. No no no. We literally saw characters who LIVED these experiences, it wasn't propaganda. Dorian even confirms that it pains him that it *isn't* propaganda. Veilguard retconned so much, misrepresented what it didn't retcon, and only kept the softest interpretation of whatever was left.
Like or hate Veilguard you cannot change that it played so fast and loose with the worldbuilding that it basically invalidates the previous three games. (Which is why, instead, I have to headcanon the crap out of Veilguard because I'd rather consider one game massively wrong than three games.)
Veilguard feels like the player is experiencing propoganda in Tevinter and actively falling for it. Like remember that conversation in Inquisition where Dorian is like āwell yeah thereās slavery. But itās a fact of life! Theyād be treated bad if they werenāt slaves anyways, not all slavery is bad some people treat their slaves super good actually, and you have poverty here so how is that any different?ā
Veilguard feels like it took that conversation, but thought that Dorian was objectively correct, and thatās what Veilguardās Tevinter is based on. Slavery is never mentioned, except for the almost comically evil slavers who literally sit on their slaves, those are the ones that need to be stopped by all means. All other slavery? Well, itās not urgent, Iām sure someone will get to it eventually.
