A while back in an interview Ewing off-handedly suggested Bren Waters might make a good villain.
Even at the time I assumed he meant "if someone wanted to go that route," which seems to be the case since he's leaving Venom at the end of Queen in Black. He's got no ACTUAL plans to make Bren a villain.
Anyway, I remember my friends being upset at the suggestion, but honestly I think it would be a fascinating development & reasonably in-character.
The downfall into becoming Dylan's (and by extension, Toxin's) enemy could be so beautifully tragic!!
As angry as Dylan was that Bren got of scot-free when he got sent to Juvi, Bren's probably equally angry that he risked his neck to help Dylan and lost his closest friend & partner (Toxin) probably forever as a result.
Imagine how angry Bren might be to see Dylan now bonded to Toxin after that! He lost everything because of Dylan, and now, from his perspective, Dylan's taken it all for himself!
Imagining Bren risking everything to reunite with Toxin, and asking Tox to come back to him. And Toxin, due to past trauma with losing hosts & being forcibly separated from them + not wanting to abandon Dylan, being reluctant to go back. How would that feel to poor Bren??
idk. I could see Bren internalizing that hurt and rejection and that pain manifesting as anti-symbiote attitudes. "I risked everything for my symbiote partner and in the end he still abandoned me, we really are just meat suits to them."
Even though Bren knows the situation was more complicated than that, it still hurts so much. Even if Toxin's trying to keep him safe, it still feels like a rejection. It still FEELS like Toxin is saying that Dylan is better than him.
AND POOR NORMIE & RASCAL, FRIENDS WITH ALL OF THEM, CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE.
Anyway, all of this combined with my headcanon that Bren had a crush on Dylan. I think as the boys all grow into adulthood, Dylan and Bren could really become that special kind of "bitter ex-friends who are now enemies with a lot of really homoerotic subtext" that comic readers love so much.
this is all very train of thought but i'm thinking about it a lot.
