Inaction mostly. I watched him crush bdaman and steal supposed strike shots left and right. I should have stopped him. But caught up in my own hope to find some power I idly watched.

I think this is all true! That's why every good OC has any sorts of flaws and such. I also agree that entirely perfect characters are boring (that's kinda why most people hate "Mary-Sues")
Since the stubble effect didn't work here, I'm going to have to try a more direct approach. This whole post was spawned because of:
I am actually really offended that you have all but named Kaii here and called her stupid. It's really rude. If you have a problem with how I characterise my characters please come and talk with me in private, instead of publicly calling them "stupid".
In regards to Ilen not being interested in smoking - that's great! But you don't have to contrast everything she is or isn't into against other characters, Ilen as a character should be able to stand on her own. (And lets be real for a second, are you saying that publicly destroying property - graffiti - is a much nobler cause than smoking?)
I am expressing my feelings on this matter because I am actually straight up offended and upset by what you've done here, and I don't mean to upset you in return, but I can't sit quietly while you essentially talk crap about my character in a public space.

Itâs like going to start a puzzle and finding itâs already finished.

OLDER KAII FACTS
Kaii was not given her position in the military army, she had to work for it. Through tireless effort she clawed her way to her current position as Colonel.
She has somewhat mellowed out a bit around people, she will approach new people with a more open mind.
She hates to admit that she has a nostalgic soft spot for the adventures she had when she was younger! Leading her to be somewhat lenient towards people she knew from that time.
After the Winners year 2 Kaii hasn't been seen out of Wygene, meaning she hasn't seen anyone who hasn't visited her themselves.
Shegen is her closet friend! Followed secondly by Bull who drops in on the military camp every 6 months or so.
She was peer pressured into smoking by the other men on base. Shegen hates to see her do it and often hides her lighter.
With the military base being very much a "mans world" Kaii had to meet them on their turf, things like drinking and smoking are how these men bond. She's built up a high alcohol tolerance and while she doesn't enjoy social drinking, if another officer needs to be knocked down a peg she can out drink them pretty impressively.
She feels so incredibly guilty still from siding with Haja, which is part of the reason she ran away. Serving in the military is almost a penance for her. The order and control it brings keeps her inline!
She hasn't cut her hair since the end of season 2! It's really super long when taken out of it's braid.
Shegen wants more for her than being in the military~ Kaii is really oblivious to this though.
She is still essentially a loner, usually seeking out places on base to be alone when she's not required for anything.
Kaii has not returned to the forest where she spent most of a her childhood since the beginning of Season 1. She has felt too ashamed to go back there after some of the things she did with Haja.
That said nature and plant life is still incredibly important to her, she is very harsh on soldiers who destroy what little life (such as cacti!) there are in the sands around Wygene.
She is still a vegetarian! But this is something she keeps secret from the others on the base as it would be considered a weakness.
She has had no romantic interests since returning to Wygene. New guys on the base sometimes make a pass at her purely because there aren't many woman around, but she is quick to put them in their place.
