A couple of Buddhist principles can be spotted in Kaiba's speech at the stadium in DSoD:
Life as a prison
In other words, flesh is a soul’s prison. It's a prison you can't leave until you die.
Through foolish wars, our history repeats in a cycle of fighting.
In Buddhist belief, the world is an illusion that keeps the individual trapped in a cycle of reincarnation by their karma, the accumulated consequences of an individual's actions. The goal of the religion is to be released from it, and karma is the obstacle that renews this cycle and prevents the person from reaching liberation.
Life and desire as suffering
But ironically, the winners still can't escape from their prisons.
Desire is the root of suffering in Buddhist philosophy, whether because the individual cannot obtain what he desires or because what has been obtained will eventually come to an end. Therefore, the nature of life is that the individual will inevitably suffer. Think of this less in pessimistic terms, and more like that meme picture of the guy smiling with a thumbs up saying nothing matters - it's about accepting your pain as a part of life due to your own or other's misguided actions or unrestrained desires so you can move on from it.
Yet narrative around Kaiba's (enforced) invitation to the citizens of Domino City also mimics Pure Land Buddhism. This branch of Mahayana Buddhism was created with the intention to make the belief in liberation possible to all people: whereas before the teachings were reserved for the nobility and therefore only the nobility would be capable of seeking liberation from the cycle of reincarnation, Pure Land Buddhism proposed the possibility of being born in a world made by a Buddha where it was easier to attain nirvana because there would be less suffering. So, though common people would not have access to the teachings, they would at least believe in the chance to reincarnate in that Pure Land and have better chances in their next life.
Kaiba plays the role of that Buddha in DSoD, offering a world without suffering of his own making.
Or...
We could interpret this as yet another deception, a false form of liberation. In Trascend Game, Kaiba uses the collective consciousness of the players hooked to the Neuron system to reach the afterlife, perhaps he's attempting to gather more power with his open invitation.
Liberation in Buddhism means detachment from earthly desires/suffering, but also the acceptance that there is no individual ego. We could say what remains under the illusion that keeps people in the cycle of reincarnation is a single existence, a collective consciousness if you will. Think Evangelion and the Human Instrumentality Project: when the physical boundaries between people are removed they become a sea of merged consciousness that's considered an evolution for humanity, a liberation from their suffering.
The control Kaiba has on the city comes directly from the discovery of collective consciousness in the virtual reality, which Sera entered in Trascend Game.
He knows everything that happens anywhere at any time, that's how he's able to track Diva and even knows about the encounter between Sera and Yugi where she handed him the two remaining pieces of the puzzle.
Kaiba: Yugi, is your treasure still inside your treasure chest?
Yugi: How do you know?
Kaiba: I know everything that happens in this city.
As far as we know, Kaiba has weaponized the collective consciousness at his disposal, but Diva raises doubts about the nature of this control:
Diva: All events occur because everyone is subconsciously connected to each other via a neural network. In other words, you're Domino's dictator because the unified consciousness has made it so. You're only pretending to be a ruler. Humanity does this to bring balance to a twisted and foolish world.
The power of the Plana resides in their superior collective consciousness, which they use to manipulate dimensions. But did Kaiba take control of Domino's because he externed power over it or because Domino willingly surrendered control to "bring balance to a twisted and foolish world"?
