To know more about him, I have to give a bit of contextual information about The Deep Dark itself.

The Deep Dark is a terrifyingly vast and dark forest, hence the very on-the-nose name. Nevertheless, there’s a bustling amount of life (and death) within the abyssal woods, all overseen by an aristocracy headed by The Queen. The Queen enforces her rule through the use of her jesters, which are more akin to a military force as opposed to their traditional role. The Queen’s jesters used to be made up of a wide variety of citizens who volunteered for duty, until one of them – a character we now know as The Owl Jester – flipped his loyalty and challenged her rule. In so many words, she swiftly kicked his ass and banished him from her service.

Since that act of dissent, The Queen replaced her original force of jesters with some sort of strange, mass-produced army. It’d slowly be revealed through the story, but these new jesters are essentially shells puppeted by a terrible, eldritch power that resides in the heart of The Deep Dark, of which The Queen has been harvesting for her own use. 

The Queen’s Jester Champion (or Champ for short) is the highest-ranking of them all. He has the most personality/individually of the jesters by a long shot, but he is just the worst kind of person. He’s insufferably snarky, demeaning, and rude to anyone but The Queen and those closest to her, and he’s got a hair-trigger temper when it comes to violence. 

Ah yes, we finally get around this rude lad (and thank you!)

- Is The Queen’s right-hand man, and top Jester in her army (Jesters in The Deep Dark are essentially a military force of terrifying, demon-puppet-like beings. They used to be comprised of normal citizens, until The Queen replaced them all after The Owl Jester’s mutiny).

- Is just the WORST; he’s a condescending jerkwad to almost everyone aside from The Queen. Even if you’re allied with him, he’s pretty snippy and malicious for the longest time until you gain his trust and respect.

- Is completely made up of the Red [Stuff] that he keeps covered with a fake, shell-like body. Strangely, he’s not infected by it. He just....IS it, which is a major plot point.

- The above portrait is actually his 2nd form, sometimes called the Desperation Form, since bosses will transform in a final, desperate act to defeat the player. Each recruitable character has their own personal quest, and Champ’s revolves around him finding a way to permanently stay in this powered-up state.

- Goes by he or they interchangeably; either is fine. (Same goes for The Proxy, I forgot to put that info on there).

- The little -- I dont know what to call them, sections of his jester hat? Almost seem to have a mind of their own and defy gravity.

- Often mentioned in the narrative that his jaw makes an unsettling clicking/clattering noise when he speaks.

- Would honest to god probably bite you if your hand got too close to their face.

- Pretty much always looking for an excuse to use violence as an answer to any problem.
