That morning had started the same as always. She got up, got dressed and started to brush her hair. Halfway through, the blonde stopped and stared at herself in the mirror. Deciding to leave her hair down, her father always liked it down, she stood up and put on her black over coat.
Instead of her usual cheery outfit of purple, she had on a dress. A black dress for mourning. Her hair stood out against it in a contrast of flaxen gold and her jacket would protect her from that days forecast of rain. Just in case, she grabbed an umbrella and the bouquet of flowers.
Violets. Bush Clovers. Stargazer Lilies. As well as White Orchids.
They were arranged stragitically so that the Bush Clovers were surrounded by the Violets in the middle. The Orchids hanged off the side and the Lilies were between the Violets and Orchids. Even Shikamaru would be proud…if he knew the meaning behind them.
She had wrapped it up in black paper, and made a bento of his favorite foods. She stepped outside, looked up and noticed the stormy grey clouds, yet she didn’t care. Not today. She made her way to the familiar grave where she stood and sent a small smile down to the head stone.
Here lies Yamanaka Inochi. Esteemed father, Esteemed Husband. You will be dearly missed.
Bowing her head in respect, one word escaped twinfolds. “Father.”
She sat down, smoothing her dress out from beneath her and placed the bento before her. “I know how much you like to eat, so I bought you some food tou-san. I hope you enjoyed it. I did my best.”
Ino wasn’t the best cook, she had almost burnt the house down the first time she had tried to cook anything. Her father and mother after fussing at her, laughed hysterically at the fact.
“I bought you flowers. I hope they make you proud.”
Her voice was beginning to choke up. Thunder clapped and rain fell down. Swallowing back the tears, she chattered aimlessly to the headstone. Letting him know how she was doing, what she’s done, how her team was. Things she would tell her father if given the chance.
By the time she had finished talking, tears were running down her face mixing in with the rain. She didn’t care. She hugged the headstone, wishing that it was her father instead before standing up, and swallowing. One sentence left hung in the air before she left.
“I miss you, Daddy. Happy Fathers Day.”
