(long post)
now hear me out, I'm pretty certain that this live-action Mass Effect show/movie can get away with having two Commander Shepards. I think it also would be helpful so they don't have to keep one being canonical over than the other. Having both Paragon and Renegade Shepherds would give us the opportunity to also have both male and femshep, wider romance scenes, and overlapping story options to cover! though keeping Maleshep being with Liara and Femshep being with Garrus might go over better. pretty sure paramale and renfem works better too.
And with Ashs' introduction on eden prime, instead of having her captain fall, this could be the introduction of RenFemShepard coming along with Ash onto the Normandy. still though i think it would be best to keep the "they have to choose Virmire survivor!" either by one of the sheps making that decision, or both try their best, but one will ultimately fail.
As for the Prothean beacon, I think it's safe to say that only one shepherd should have that vision. And it might be the best excuse to actually keep the other "commander" on the Normandy. Considering how important that vision is. though I said RenFemShepard would be introduced with Ash on Eden Prime, that doesn't necessarily have to be the case. Whoever gets the vision is the one that has to be taken along with to the Normandy. One shepherd gets the vision and Introduced on Eden Prime. The other shepherd was introduced from the start and was initially the Spectre candidate.
Anyway, as the story goes, and as they hit from planet to planet, each shepherd either take each other's missions separately, like one at a time (good for each getting a dedicated episode to themselves) OOOR they both go on the same mission at the same time, bringing along one teammate of their choosing. This will be great back-and-forth, and each shepherd's choice could fumble over the others, making some pretty good high stakes on the story. and a great way to get both Paragon and Renegade choices inserted without it seeming like a decision that came out of nowhere and being out of character from only having one Shepherd.
I would also just adore to see ParaMalShep and RenFemShep argue over stuff. lmaooo But alas, even when this live-action adaption gets made, I'm more cautious than hopeful.... there are too many remakes out there that are absolutely atrocious....
Also, renegade FemShepard punching the reporter Khalisah al-Jilani would be very satisfying, and it would avoid maleshep having to punch her and start some big fucking dumbass controversy all over again. would even say that ParaMaleShep is the one being reported on since he's a Spectre, and he goes through the report with flying colors, but RenFemShep is still overprotective of him and still lashes out in the end for trying to smear him. (just a small twist how a scene could go) lol ohh mann how would they handle conrad verner???! It probably would take two shepherds to deal with this man, since one alone is already on their wits' ends.
back to the Sheps... ultimately, what should this other Commander Shepard be named? The one introduced with Ash on Eden Prime (that doesn't right away become a spectre maybe???). I guess you could go with Grissom. Maybe it could then land some ties with Grissom Academy, and that shepherd could be a biotic! I'd be down for RenFemShep to be "Grissom", but it would be pretty neat SINCEEE the biotic training for humans is still so small, she probably had crossed paths with Kaiden at some point. So when Grissom comes onto the Normandy, she's like, "hey Kaidan! you're here? wow small galaxy lol" I'm not too sure if the Sheps should have differing names or not as I'm not the biggest fan of making them siblings... cough cough Mass Effect Andromeda cough cough
How are you all feeling on this adaption? And I'm not gonna lie, I KNOW that Garrus is gonna have very heavily CGI face, but if they don't get Brandon Keener to come back and do the voice im gonna be a mad gal!
