Artist Reaserch: Edward Twohig
Edward Twohig, an Irish artist, who specialized in drypoint etching influenced me this week for my use of drypoint print and inspiration directly from nature. I like his simple but affective use of etching, and how the effect of movement flows through his artwork. In the third piece his use of leaves surrounding the moonlight is captivating and makes me want to create more drypoint prints in the future.

PRINTMAKING:
Tuesday I continued with Mondays print workshop. I chose another one of my six prints and etched it into an acetate sheet. I did the same process as last time ,but when i was about to roll it into the print press, I cut up some coloured tissue paper. Using wallpaper adhesive I placed it over the tissue paper. The mixture of the adhesive and the damp card when rolled in the print press, the tissue stuck onto the paper with the ink showing through.
I did this again with a different design of tissue paper to attempt my perception on the project 'movement'. I even placed the sheet of acetate on the paper multiple times to interpret movement through the artwork.

PRINTMAKING:
Monday morning i joined the Drypoint print workshop in the Maker Station Studio. I was showed how to firstly make a print by rolling ink onto the glass table and placing newspaper sheet over. Then using a pencil to make an impression on the paper letting the ink cling onto where my pencil touched. I made six quick pieces ,all relating to my take of the project "Movement". I based them on the movement of rivers and branches of trees.
I then chose one of my pieces and placed an acetate sheet over and started to etch into it. Once it was etched, I rolled ink over and rubbed off the excess using a wax cloth and paper so the ink is only left in the etched cracks.
Next I set the acetate into the print press. I placed a damp piece of card on top and rolled the print press. I did this process a couple of times, etching more into the acetate to make the incisions deeper so it comes out darker onto the sheet.
I really enjoyed this print workshop and would love to do it again. I like how it got me outside of my comfort zone, I look forward to my next week of print.
MOVEMTENT:
Artist research: Peter Doig
Peter Doig's work resonates with me due to its dreamlike quality, atmospheric depth, and emotional undertones. I like him because his art bridges realism and imagination, creating paintings that feel both familiar and surreal, allowing me to interpret and immerse myself in the mood and story he presents.
When it comes to his artwork, Doig's use of fluid, layered brushstrokes captures a subtle but dynamic sense of motion. The interplay between stillness and implied motion might make his work feel alive, which aligns with my appreciation for themes like waves and wind in my own art.
Doig also uses negative space and abstraction effectively, suggesting movement even in what remains undefined. This approach invites the viewer to complete the image, engaging more deeply with the artwork.

PAINTING:
Monday morning I did a life paining. We were asked to mix red, blue and yellow acrylic paint to make a sort of brown/grey colour. I made a dark, medium and light shade. I was showed how to set up an easel and positions paper onto the wooden board.
I started with the body. Seven heads fit into a body so I roughly marked out seven lines on the page. I block coloured the body the middle shade, the wall the dark shade and the floor the light shade.
I then added some dimension to each part making it look more three dimensional. The time went quick and then I was finished. I enjoyed this workshop although I don’t typically like painting people. It was a good experience.
MOVEMENT:
Last Thursday I sat outside the college and did a half hour watercolour paining of the movement of the trees and twigs. I enjoyed the fresh air and the freedom the watercolour gave me. Watercolour is probably my favourite media to use while capturing a landscape. I love the wash you can make with the use of a lot of water and the depth it gives while using barely any water.
Movement:
Yesterday I went to the river by my house (Mulcair River ). I brought a watercolour kit with me and began to paint. The colours of the rivers interests me as you normally think of water as clear or blue, here the river is brown and muddy.
I spent half an hour doing this painting and only about two minutes on the wick sketch. I enjoy the freedom of the quick sketch. This will definitely get me out of my comfort zone and explore the world around me.
Movement:
On Tuesday I brainstormed the project ’movement’. I’m am going to focus on natural movement including water and wind. These interest me as it is all around me and there is endless primary sources. I will experiment through painting, printmaking and ceramics to show my work.

Still life
Here I painted a still life using acrylic paint and gouache paints. I enjoy painting still life’s as I can see the primary sources for what they are in front of me. I like how precise you can make the painting using smaller brushes and accurate proportions.
Relief Print:
Yesterday I did the relief print workshop using materials such as Lino, wood and MDF. I really enjoyed this workshop as it brought more skills into my project.
Relief printing involves carving a design into a surface, leaving raised areas to hold ink. The inked areas are pressed onto paper or fabric to create the image.
Linocut is a type of relief printing where designs are carved into linoleum. It's softer and easier to carve than wood, making it ideal for bold, clean designs. Linocuts are popular for their versatility and strong graphic quality.
Here I used oil pastels to resemble magazine covers. The makeup in these images inspires me to see makeup as an art form and a tool for self-expression. From bold contrasts and glossy lips to playful paint-like textures and ethereal color gradients, each look pushes creative boundaries. They encourage me to experiment with bold colors, unique textures, and cohesive designs that blend fashion and art.
Here I used carbon paper to transfer my image. I really enjoyed this exercise and how precise the pencil transfers through the paper.
Putting on jewelry each morning is a cherished ritual that completes my look and adds a personal touch to my style. Whether it’s delicate earrings, a statement necklace, or meaningful rings, each piece reflects my mood and enhances my outfit. This simple act brings a sense of elegance and confidence to my day.
Morning routine: My love for makeup is rooted in creativity and self-expression. It’s more than just a routine, it’s a form of art that allows you to enhance your natural beauty and experiment with different looks. Makeup brings me joy and confidence, serving as both a personal passion and a way to showcase my individuality.

In ‘The End and the Beginning’ , Kathy Prendergast uses human hair to explore themes of memory, loss, and transformation. The hair is intricately woven into delicate, lace-like patterns, symbolizing both presence and absence. Hair, as something both personal and lasting, represents the cycle of life—its continuity and fragility. Prendergast’s work powerfully reflects on identity and mortality, using hair to connect intimate human experiences with broader themes of time and impermanence.
I’m really drawn to Alice Maher’s use of hair in her work because it transforms something so familiar into a powerful symbol for identity and self-expression. I love how she uses hair in unexpected ways—braiding it into dense, tangled shapes or turning it into objects that feel both beautiful and a little unsettling. It makes me think about the layers of meaning in everyday things we take for granted, like hair, and how it can embody strength, fragility, and personal history. Maher’s work resonates with me because it explores the complexity of identity in such a visceral, intriguing way.
