Here is a little sample of patchwork i made to resemble the beach as well as the city. The bright and beautiful colours hide the dark undertone of the piece where i have chosen to focus on pollution and the harm it has on sea life.

Experimenting with blue fabrics to create a wave like effect. I want the fabric to represent ripples in the waves. I’ve created this textile which link to the piece i designs in the previous post of the rippled, wave look.

Looking at other fabrics that I didn’t use but i liked the look of. This one in particular is a scarf with shapes to resemble the ocean .

Exploring the theme through colour, texture , concept and medium.

I did some draping on the mannequin an today . First i cut up the fabrics into patches before i started the patchwork process. I decided to focus on the beach and city together. I used a mixture of two blue fabrics to create the sea as well as yellow/mustard fabric for the sand. After this i used black rectangles to represent the city scape and a mesh scarf ton represent the dust and dirt of the city. Essentially focusing and the damages pollution had to the sea and beaches.

I then did this little quick one which isn’t great but it was just an experiment. I cut the shape of a turtle which i then wrapped around the body to distort it , on the turtles back i tried to cut a city scape, i made smoke out of the scarves and i hinted at the beach . This is to show pollution of the sea and how animals are endangered especially sea turtles.

Martin Margiela is a Belgian fashion designer and the founder of French fashion house Maison Margiela.

His work with patchwork is really unique and interesting. He’s created unique shapes and his choice of colour is really exquisite.

I collected some images which i found represented patchwork . I thought the patterns and colours were interesting.
