People are so quick, SO lighting fast at coming to the conclusion that an incident was a hate crime when the victim was a black person when the perpetrator was white. You donât even need evidence, and people will already be posting statuses saying âwhere the rally at?â and Black Lives Matter hitting the streets ready to protest. Even after it comes out that it wasnât a hate crime, people would still be outraged, completely disregarding it.
Why is it suddenly âwell, we gotta look at the bigger pictureâŚâ or âmeeh, I dunno, looks like horrible people doing horrible things⌠letâs not jump to conclusionsâŚâ? Now people are dragging their feet, trying to find every reason to steer this away from race, when you know if this was the other way around there would be zero hesitation.

CNN picked up the story today. While theyâre reporting it straight, it upsets me that we actually have to ask the question: Is this a hate crime?

We all see the video, nothing is uncertain about what exactly when down, there are no questions as to what transpired. This was more than just âstupid ranting and ravingâ. They kidnapped this person (not ranting, not raving), bound him up and gagged him (more than just going on a rant) , cut his scalp (still not ranting nor raving) and physically attacked him. Why do we need so much proof to determine whether or not this was a hate crime. They targeted him because he was white (check) and referenced his ethnicity multiple times within the video (check).
