Like most people my life has been spent pursuing things that interest me. When presented with an opportunity (usually one that I have conjured) I can't help but run towards it with all of my being. Money has never been a driving factor for why I do things, nor has stability. In fact it has shown to be quite the opposite. I have a curiosity towards the unknown and living in the moment (however both of these things give me a healthy dose of fear). There have been many instances while in mid sprint towards these goals that people have asked me why I pursue things outside of the norm.
I simply reply: "Why not?"
I have come to find that I have an addiction to experience. Some would say this is reckless, but without this addiction I never would have fought off wild dogs while trying to sleep in a foreign park, toured my band around America or stumbled into a monastery in the mountains of Poland.
No, I have never been one for the safe route much to my family's dismay. They were very relieved when I said I finally decided to go to college and then went immediately back into turmoil when they discovered it was to pursue a passion in filmmaking. There is not exactly a guaranteed income in that field.
My immediate family and close friends are now accustomed to rash decisions and random spouts of adventure, but most others are not. The usual questions arise:
"Do you know where you're going to stay?"
"Where's the money in that?"
"When are you going to settle down?"
People give me the same formula for life:
High school + College + Internship + Job = Be happy
High school + College + Internship + Job = bland safety.
We live in a land of freedom and opportunity…as long as you follow the guidelines.
Well, I've never been one for guidelines. In fact they usually give me an incentive to search outside the box that they put me in.
Recently in my pursuit of freelance animation, a stop motion short film and my current obsession with existence and the cosmos I thought that life was getting a little bit too mundane.
If I stay in one place too long I begin to feel stuck which makes me question the validity in everything that I am doing. Am I digging myself into a hole? Is this a rut? Am I getting too comfortable? This all needs to be remedied, so I'm going to fix this vehicle up and live wherever I want, however I want with whoever is brave enough to join me.
This blog is to show that no dream is too ridiculous to bring to fruition. I want to live a life that inspires others to enrich their own in whatever manor they see fit.
That being said, which of your dreams scare you the most?
When talking about them have you heard stuff like:
"I don't know if that's a good investment."
"That's all well and good now, but what about when you're older?"
Let's be honest. All of these questions and statements are valid.
However, who has ever done anything great without great risk?
The reasons people do not take risks are the exact reasons I take them, and if I am not pursuing my endeavors without some sort of interference it probably isn't worth it. What is there to gain from a life with no obstacles?
Discoveries aren't made on paths already blazed.
