I am thinking of making my own kind of comic I guess on Tumblr but I don’t know how…if you have any tips that would be great 😅
Oh cool! I'm afraid I don't have as much advice as one would hope.. I myself am planning to make a comic, but I'm new to the process, too. But I have gotten advice from some wonderful artists on here, and I've taken a course in sequential art in college! Here's what I know:
It's important to plan it out from the beginning if you want your comic to have an overarching plot. That way you can hide foreshadowing and make it all tie together well!
Mix up the shape, orientation, and size of the panels. Use the alignment of them to lead the reader's eyes along the story and dialogue.
Read comics! Find ones you like and study them. How to they put together their dialogue? How do they use camera angles and shadows to show the emotions in the scene? Do they have a unique way of laying out the panels? Etc.
Play around with art styles and shading! Figure out what feels comfortable and what you'd be willing to draw a hundred times over. You don't want to burn yourself out.
And don't feel discouraged if it takes a long time or if you aren't happy with it. You can always rework it! You can take as long or short of a time as you need! This is your project that you're making because it brings you joy, that's all that matters. If you love what you're making, it's worth it.
One day I'll get to making my spin-off comic, but for now, I just know those bits. The more technical advice is something I'll learn along the way, I think.
