Avocado toasts and economic disparity. Record low wages. Record high profits. The pyramid is made of solid gold and built upon piles of bones.

Men who dwell in distant towers many hundreds of miles away from a home they own. Controlled by a subcontractor of a subcontractor and rented to no one. No pets. Could damage the cheap wood floor.

Speculations of grim cyberpunk future dystopias often depict Tokyo-style dense urban centers.

The American Cyberpunk reality is 800 lane highways. Superdense parking structures that service an apartment complex consisting only of 6,000$ a month studios.

The American Cyberpunk is global parking lot. Asphalt and concrete stretching as far as the eye can see in every direction.

There is no neon.

There is no sleek EDM music.

There are no cybernetic enhancements.

There are Tesla Cybertrucks.

There are self-driving cars incapable of telling the difference between an empty street and a human child.

There are fast food communities.

A sunny, cloudless day is both culturally considered the optimal day for outdoor activity, and is mechanically the best time for government satellites to monitor your position.

But not only them.

How many metahumans have an increased sensory range?

Enhanced sight? Enhanced sound?

Who is watching you right now?

Do you sleep with your curtains open?

Did you know that it is remarkably easy to see into a home at night if the interior is lit? Did you know it is incredibly hard to see someone outside of your window when your light is on?

Have you ever heard a sound in your home when you are alone?

Do you think houses actually settle?

Have you ever heard someone say your name when you were alone, or in a crowded area where no one knows you?

Is there anywhere you aren't being watched?

If you disappeared right now, who would be the first person to notice your absence?

If you were replaced by someone who looked like you, acted like you, went through the motions of your life, do you think anyone would notice?

Are you secure in the inherent uniqueness of your self?

If you can mimic someone's mannerisms through minimal interactions, how much time do you think it would take someone studying you to take over your life completely?
