Final concept sketch for my AO3 fanfic café maid cosplay for DashCon 2! (((o(*ﾟ▽ﾟ*)o)))♡

(idk if anyone's actually reading this lol - I'm enjoying journaling my progress to the void of the internet tho ^u^ It's like a virtual scrapbook! And if others in the community witness and enjoy it, then that's a bonus!)

I'm only 70% sold on the bow tho, so I've got this plan B in mind:

But I'm DEFINITELY going to include the Y/N name tag either way! >w<

So today I got my fabric and finished carving the 12 stamps! Here's a test run I did with paper & stamp pads:

Some of the stamp pads are running dry tho 🥲 I'll be using oil-based blockprinting fabric ink for the real thing.

I left out the "multi relationships" symbol because it'll be finicky to print 4 squares within the space of one square plus have 4 different colours directly touching each (but I might be up for the challenge once I start printing). As for the "content warning" symbol, even though it's just an exclamation box in a red box, I'd feel uncomfortable wearing a symbol that denotes the presence of...basically all the content warning topics other than Depictions of Violence and Major Character Death. Come to think of it, I don't really know what it typically means when an author chooses to opt out of the content warning tag system either...so maybe I'll replace the "!?" square with the multi relationship square? I'll see if I can implement the change in a way that will keep the colour distribution of my pattern balanced (yes I'm a meticulous perfectionist ^_^; )

Did a test run with my first stamp - things are looking promising!! :D just gotta get a feel for consistently applying strong ink eheheh I was skimping out on it

I was initially really leaning towards the red apron + checkered dress bc then the AO3 logo could go on the solid red apron and my checkered pattern idea is the feature I'm most proud of so I wanted to show it off all over the dress. But after a lot of thinking I realized that the apron will take up most of the front-facing surface area of the outfit, so the pattern will likely be better featured on it instead. Plus, inverting the classic colour placement between the apron and dress of maid outfits might end up looking a bit too off (couldn't find any example pics of it on Google) ^_^;

The other factor that went into my decision is that cosplay is expensive af and idk if this is something I'd wear to anywhere but DashCon 2. So, by making the dress red and separate from the apron, I can repurpose it into a Café Mew Mew Ichigo cosplay afterwards ! (((o(*ﾟ▽ﾟ*)o)))

Tokyo Mew Mew was my gateway into anime/manga and subsequently into exploring my mixed Japanese heritage, so it's very precious to me :> This was also my first cosplay that my mom sewed for me when I was 13, so it'll be sweet to come back to it. ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪ And coincidentally, it's already my plan to eventually get a tattoo replica of Ichigo's mew mark!
