It's freaky how the brain will just plasticly learn novel motor output interfaces on the fly. It's almost like instead of hard coding a control scheme for anatomy that changes every few million years the strat that brains went for was to be openly reconfigurable to fit around whatever its nerves seem to be hooked up to via observed feedback.
I think they've done tests on this by getting people to pilot novel bodies in VR. But you don't tend to notice it day to day until something weird happens like just now. I was reading a paper book and it had a line of text blacked out as if redacted. Instinctively I go to move my cursor over the black line to see if I can read any text if I highlight it.
Except it's a book and not my computer screen, so the cursor my brain thinks it's moving across my field of vision in front of me doesn't exist. At the same time, my right hand is making a bunch of small involuntary movements next to me. I didn't intend to move it and didn't even notice it was moving until I saw it with my eyes. What I intended to move was my Cursor, something that my brain had learned to understand that it has, and the way it moves this is by actuating the muscles in my right arm, an action that is entirely disconnected from any intent to move my arm, which is a different thing.
I love being a pattern atop this eldritch mess of neurons, it's great
father I cannot click the book
i love happy and normal collaborative storytelling
they should invent blood pressure that doesnt drop if your head gets above your heart level i think
one thing about fanfic writers is that they'll write the most beautiful poetic shit ever and it'll be tagged as cock and ball torture

❎ "my current mental state can cause me to be anxious, irrational, and overly reactive at times"
✅ "some sort of evil shadow self lurks within me that can only be defeated via battle of the mind combat"
no great deed is commemorated here
the number 1 rule of fanfic is have fun and be yourself. the number 2 rule is the average healthy adult male can lose roughly 2 liters of blood before dying.

Hamlet adaptation where Hamlet is a vlogger and all his soliloquies are breakdowns he uploads to YouTube
… I am unironically here for this
this is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, he’s stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, they’re still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but they’re still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewer’s lived experience. They’re still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And it’s beautiful. It’s beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because he’s presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.
A post about this went round recently, and I’m delighted to announce she’s since come out as trans and goes by Jasmine 🏳️⚧️
Actor and Writer
There’s a whole series of the Hamlet videos on her YouTube, as well as a bunch of other films she’s made
didnt realise how much of a muse lestat was for some of my latest ocs but Andrei has some of his personality, especially the flair and Marsh is so close to him in physicality now that i look at it, both ripped blond bitches dressing in scandalous ladies gowns who love theatre

god the break Lestat had after the video came out was so well done because yeah, for someone so masterful at self deception and desperately painting all of his abuses up as something romantic and rose coloured or "not that bad" being faced with with even the smallest thought of "oh, this is abuse thats happening to me", "it was a violation" does feel like you've suddenly been dropped a storey.
there is this involuntary shift in your perspective that you cannot take back, and the thought can never be put back in its dissociative vault again even if you desperately want to. it makes you sick and no wonder he actually throws up in that scene.
often your self preservation instincts make you look at events thru a distorted lens untill your psyche thinks it can handle the truth, or you get forced into it, like happened to Lestat. Sometimes dissociation makes invisible labyrinths inside your mind, blocking off entire concepts from you.
I think the show deals really well with these parts of psychology, or at least, deals with it in a way that is extremely relatable to me.

Polycule but it’s just two people in a romantic relationship with each other and their third who’s pretty obviously aroace but also somehow so deeply intertwined in their lives that it’d just be wrong to not count them as involved. Is this anything.

You can tell a lot about a person by entering their mind palace and encountering their greatest fears and darkest hopes in a labyrinth reflective of their subconscious thoughts.
