  "Oh, yeah, it’s rather icy today. Puddles have been freezing over and under the snow it’s almost impossible to see them—" He cut himself off, noticing he’d been rambling, and turned his eyes down and away. "Why wouldn’t I be okay? I didn’t fall down or anything. I must just be tired.” Dieter’s smile didn’t waver, though he took the end of his sleeve between his fingers and gave a little tug. 

A skeptical expression passed over his face, and he pointed to his friends eye. "Well, if you were tired, the black ring would be under your eye, not all around it. Are you okay, though?..." With a slight sigh, he shook his head and tried to step around the subject, knowing full well someone had most likely landed a blow on his eye. Shaking his head, he attempted to offer a slight smile once more. "Where were you headed, anyway...?"

  "Better late than never."

"Very true, very true."

Ask my character bizarre questions they couldn't possibly know the answer to and they'll give you their best guess.
