Everything else is still the same, but Robin never faces the basement—Finn still does though.

Robin finds out his best friend is missing and immediately starts searching. He doesn’t give up, not for one second; he’ll find Finney and he’ll find the hijo de puta who took Finn. He and Gwen work together.

Finney escapes the same, Robin is relieved and doesn’t let him go for several minutes. Won’t leave his side at the hospital. Vows that he’ll not only protect Finney more than he already was, but teach him to fight better himself.

But Finney doesn’t need Robin’s help learning how to fight. Finn figured that out himself in the basement when it was life or death. He can throw a harder punch than Robin now. Robin should be proud of that, and he is.. but he’s also a bit scared. And a bit sickened.

He watched his friend, his Finney, completely change. Slow at first, Finney stays Finney for a while. He’s jumpier and vigilant and uncomfortable now that his dad is making all these changes—but he’s Finney. But as he gets older, he changes.

Not the regular changes, ya’know. Puberty and all that stuff. Robin is changing too, but not in the same way. Robin is normal, Finn isn’t.

Robin notices a pretty girl here and there. Finn can’t bring himself to want to look at anyone, except maybe Robin. Robin’s body changes, Finn’s does too. But Finn’s has been changed for years. Finn doesn’t need anymore changes, he doesn’t want anymore changes, the changes make him sick.

Everything makes him sick now that he’s old enough to understand.

Robin watches his Finney start having perpetually red knuckles. New scars keep popping up, always healed already by the time he notices them—but he knows they weren’t there before. And he knows that Finn now is strong enough to not be getting them from his father or from anyone else.

Robin doesn’t want to think about exactly what that means, but it makes his gut twist.

Finn smokes now. Robin can’t believe that. Finney never would’ve smoked.

Robin had seen his mom smoke once or twice, not often, but during the bad times where she just needs one to calm everything. He understood well enough, even as a kid.

He suppose he understands now too. Finn smokes because he needs to calm everything. Somethings can’t be beaten with fists, somethings you can’t bleed out. Sometimes you just need to be high enough you can’t care about it.

But it’s not his Finney anymore. And Robin has never been a selfish person, but he wants his Finney back.
