BTS âSecret to global popularity? Â Bromance between the membersâ (interview)
Last year, as BTS sang about the burning youth, they became one of the top idol groups. And they started the new year on a good note.
On the 17th, BTS won World Hallyu Star Award at the 5th Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards.
On the day of the ceremony, they won with last yearâs release of íěě°í pt.1 and íěě°í pt.2.
After the ceremony, BTS had an interview with Starnews and expressed their thoughts: âI think this award is not only given by our fans in Korea, but also our international fans. We will come back with better performances in the future.Â
âOur biggest strength is expressing reality through music.â They continued, âOur fans feel close to our music as if itâs their own stories and receive emotional comfort. And we want to satisfy our fans with our music.â
When they were asked about this yearâs (activity) plans, they replied: âWe havenât pinned anything down yet. We just want to keep emphasizing that weâre still young.â This year, BTSâ maknae Jungkook (1997)âs Korean age is 20 years old but they still emphasized that they are (young) boys. Leader Rap Monster expressed: âour maknae is still a minor because of his international age. We are not old. We will continue to be young boys for this year (laughs).â
BTS is not only getting attention within Korea, but also internationally. Their mini album íěě°í pt.2 released last year November achieved #1 place on the Billboard World Albums chart for 4 weeks, which set a record for most weeks atop of World Albums by any K-Pop act.
BTS is getting attention from all over the world, when they were asked about whatâs their charm? Â BTS replied: âteamwork and friendship.â And continued, âThe love and friendship between our members. Our bromance or brothership is strong. The fans probably like the way how we are attached to each other. This is our strength. Also, our music and performances are cool so thatâs why they like us. Itâs a bit embarrassing to say this ourselves. Haha.â
Ever since the trainee days, theyâve been living in a dormitory. BTS said that theyâve been living together for about 7 years, they can tell what the other member is thinking about just by listening to their breathing. When they were asked about the secret to their teamwork, BTS replied with the affections for each other.
âWeâre well aware of what each member lacks. No one is perfect among us. We know each otherâs weaknesses so we work hard. Weâve been living together for a long time, we know each other very well and weâre like siblings. We feel happy when weâre together.â
BTS is not only representing K-Pop idol group but they are also becoming a popular group globally. They expressed that they want to try acting, variety shows and other fields this year. Leader Rap Monster also expressed his hope to release some of his solo work this year. Â
âNothing is confirmed yet, but we want to show our various sides. We hope that this year will be filled with different activities depending on our memberâs abilities. We wonât be too ambitious and we will go up gradually (steadily and orderly). Weâre always thankful to our fans.â
Coming from a small idol company, BTS is rising to the top with their talents. We look forward to how they will bring happiness through music and performance to their fans in the future.
