"Yeah, I know.” He said with a twist of his lips. “But that’s not what’s bothering me.” Levi shoved his hand in his pocket and played with the object inside. He arched a brow, “I guess while she was gone it got me thinking about things. Like, we’ve been together or a long time and we’re not getting any younger, you know?” He pulled the object from his pocket and set it on the table. It was a ring box covered in blue velvet and inside was a small opal ring with diamonds running along the band. A simple ring, he knew Harlow and how’d she despise a rock the size of a baby’s head. “When I look at my life down the line, I see Harlow being there by my side — always.”

“I’m going to ask her to marry me.”

Juliette wasn’t quite sure what she expected, but that was not it. Her eyebrows shot up with almost comical swiftness, and she stared at Levi for a moment before a wide grin spread across her features. ❜ Well, shite, Bevett, it’s about time. ❛

Darkness had fallen upon the city of Seattle hours ago, its’ shadows endeavoring to creep into Juliette’s shared apartment only to be kept at bay by the dim light of the television. Most nights off were spent like this, lounging on the couch with the lights turned low, a favorite film on or lazily flipping the channels, and her little hell beast purring on her lap. Samantha should have been home some time ago, and though normally Juliette would think little of it, her stomach churned with something she could not define—something she push back, knowing she was simply overthinking things.

Nearly two hours late, and the click of the lock turning on the front door brought Juliette out of the stupor the current film had landed her in. Amusement curled at the corners of her lips and a retort of the witty kind hung on the tip of her tongue, waiting for the hint of long legs and brunette hair before it sounded. And the smile upon amaranth lips would only last for so long, for even in such dim lighting it was obvious the shadow across her friend’s face were not the natural kind.

A wild yowl escaped the feline who previously occupied her lap as Juliette stood abruptly, ignoring the cat’s indignant glare. Shock was the first registered emotion, cold and sudden like being doused with ice water. Words spilled forth from her lips before Juliette had the chance to process them. ❜ What the fuck happened? Who did this? ❛ The second emotion was anger, white hot rage and ferocity coursing through her at the mere thought that someone had laid their hands on her best friend. Her hands shook, from the shock or anger she did not know, but that was the least of her concerns at present. ❜ Who the fuck did this, Sam. ❛ She spoke in what was quite possibly the most even-toned voice Juliette had ever possessed, fury roiling beneath the ice of her words.

❝ Don’t be a child. It’s there for a reason.❞ At this point Lex has accepted the fact that he’s dealing with a drunk six-year-old. ( One that makes an absurd amount of sexual passes at someone that she’s hardly met. ) ❝  I would’ve just called you a  c a b, but you wouldn’t have gone. Besides, Harlow and Levi would kill me if I let anything happen to you. ❞

She rolled her eyes and silently imitated his words with a mocking expression, though finally conceding and fastening her seatbelt with a resounding click. A particularly unladylike snort left her at his following words. ❜ Hey, look’it that, you already know me so well. And Mum and Dad are nothing compared to my babe, Sammie. She’s the one y’should really be scared of. ❛ A grin accented her words, and it didn’t cross her mind that he might not in fact know Samantha, but in her drunken she wouldn’t have cared much if it had.
