I am also going to need an alien clean up on aisle three. There is a Daxamite spill 🙄
*sigh*
Okay, you know what ? At least this episode is narratively consistent with the star-crossed bullshit they've got going on. Is it pleasant to watch ? Not particularly ; but at least it's coherent.
That doesn't mean I'm not mad about it, about how incredibly long it feels (and not in a good way) nor the fact that it feels more like a romance drama than an episode from a superhero show.
The beginning of the episode is alright, I love how excited Kara is about seeing herself on the bounty hunter beacon
And Alex is lowkey hilarious
And this is an absolutely iconic line
And worried Alex and Space Dad is always, always good
But that means I want more of this ! More of this family, more of the sisters being in each other's vicinity !
More of the humour and light-heartedness !
And more of the Superfriends too ! I miss the Superfriends !
Instead of whatever the fuck they've decided is important, which is Mon-El beating Kara up for some reason and her staying down for a weird amount of time even though she is doubtlessly stronger than him and all the whining and crying about this sorry excuse for a man having to go back to space. Just let him go ! There is a very nice, very hot girlfriend for you in the next episode (and I do NOT mean a friend who is a girl).
I do not want to discuss the alien with the bulging brain because the sight of his head was fucking disturbing but I do have to say Alex never losing an opportunity to go "oh you think I won't do it, fucking hold my beer" is absolute gold
She is the light of my life and I love her (which is why I am currently writing a fic in which I am torturing her 😌 (remember when I said I was not going to think about cyborg Alex ? I failed 🙃))
For some reason Kara thinks she can change Rhea's mind. Instead, she is submitted to some more toxic homoeroticism which I'm not mad about.
And then for a short but blessed moment, the prick does go back to his parents, but Kara is very sad about it and Space Dad being the dad that he is, he agrees to go rescue his Earth daughter's toxic boyfriend 🙄
To be fair the rescue on the ship is pretty cool, I love the fight scene between "Kara" and Rhea and then again between actual Kara and Rhea. This is all appropriately dramatic, and I always love a good depressurisation (I am not entirely convinced that this is how this word is supposed to be written 🤨) scene. Now if only it wasn't to rescue the prick 🙄
I glossed over it but there is also something going on with Maggie in this episode.
And though I'm glad they are addressing this and giving her some space to resolve her issues, it also very much feels like they panicked and remembered that Alex had a girlfriend and they had to give her something to do.
And I do love that Alex is not letting this go, that she pushes Maggie to open up, to talk, and that she doesn't judge her. But I also don't understand where they were going with the cheating storyline. Sure, cheating is a thing that happens in real life, but this is a fictional story and usually when cheating is brought up in this context, it means something about a character and it's not something that is then brushed aside.
Unless, and bear with me for a second because I'm literally thinking as I type, what we're supposed to take away from this is that Alex is good and kind and understanding and non-judgemental, that she doesn't jump to the worst conclusion and is willing to give Maggie the space and time she needs to grow and heal ; and the unresolved break up, Maggie cheating on her ex-girlfriend thing has more to do with Alex being a good partner than it has to do with Maggie's development as a character 🤔
Oh and I guess Rhea killed her husband ?
Queen behaviour tbh.
