to this day the creation of l'manberg, which is unarguably the single most important plot point in the entire story, is routinely mischaracterized by every part of the fandom even though people can literally just go and rewatch the stream to see what happened and for the life of me i cannot figure out why or how

The experience of the dream smp is equally interesting in the actual story substance, with its observations on human behaviour and whatnot, and on a meta level with experiencing/observing the fandom and what can be gathered about human nature from that. Like, for example, seeing a large portion of the fandom cheering on c!Dream’s torture??—despite being disturbed, I’m enriched and almost as fascinated by this as much as watching the events in the lore ! Oh, the story takes on difficult ideas and has happenings that the fans hate and criticize because it makes them feel “uncomfortable”? [ like c!Dream’s torture which some people were mad about because “it felt like the story was setting up a redemption arc”???] To that I say: good—if the story makes you uncomfortable by challenging you and your stupid mental frameworks

Can I voice a very fucked up thought/reading I've head regarding how weird the drug van, c!wilbur and c!tommy's relationship and just the general start of l'manburg was when you think about it. Like. an older man joins the server and immediately gets the youngest member to do and sell drugs, get told off for it and respond by declaring he's making a country, essentially kind of separating(isolating c!tommy(and c!tubbo by that point too) from the rest of the server. Like okay yeah the reasons for the drug van and l'manburg were like very different from this and by the start of l'manburg there were already other members with them too but like. you ever wonder if any of the non-l'manburgians looked at whatever c!wilbur and c!tommy/c!clingy had going on during that and wondered if he was like drugging and molesting them. Maybe I'm remebering it to have been a lot more weird and suspicious than it was and in that case sorry. but yeah.
i originally had a more thoughtful response replying to the essence of what you're trying to say instead of the nonsense you're actually saying but i believe the council has concluded that this is such an olympic level reach that it's genuinely impressive how anyone at all ever could've possibly thought this let alone thought it made sense for any character in the story to have ever wondered this

there's something to be said about c!tommy rejecting l'manberg's presidency for the disc war (which, at the time, from c!tommy's perspective was a much smaller, personal conflict that he actually enjoyed) as a rejection of c!wilbur's control over his life only for c!wilbur to destroy l'manberg and die to punish him for it

Don’t get me started on the c!inniters who excuse c!Sam’s actions like my guy c!Dream wielded the potato, sure, but c!Sam isolated two people with their biggest triggers and at every fork in the road chose the wrong answer

It was like “hey so c!Wilbur abused c!Tommy and his absence created an abuse power vaccum that the circumstances of which just happened to fall into c!Dream’s lap as this perfect storm for his stupid plan” and then they screamed at me because “c!Wilbur and c!Tommy are brothers, he loved c!Tommy and was struggling mentally during Pogtopia because he was just betrayed by his only son so he was mentally ill and that’s why his actions during Pogtopia are excused. You are demonizing mental illness by saying that. He would never abuse c!Tommy”

also the wildest part to me is them immediately jumping to pogtopia when most of the on-screen abuse happens during l'manberg. like yeah, he scared the shit out of c!tommy in pogtopia, but that's mostly because the enmeshment was already there, and a lot of c!tommy's pogtopia trauma is more related to the thought of losing c!wilbur. like. yeah there is a lot of manipulation going on in pogtopia bc that's just how c!wilbur is with people but he was a little too busy having a psychotic episode to be doing shit like exploiting c!tommy's naivety and lack of life experience to deliberately obfuscate the fact that he was intentionally taking advantage of his power over c!tommy
