The end of a 15 year period
In 1998 (History Lesson) me and my family moved to rented farm called Shaw Wood. It was about 10 mins from a town and a little isolated from everyone else. Being 6 years old I was amazed by this new exciting adventure of living on a farm.
We had tons of animals; Chickens, Ducks, Pigs, Goats, Cows and even a Turkey. I can remember telling the towny kids at school. They used to be amazed by how my life was different. Of course some people were jealous and gave me grief about it. Looking back at it, they were very very sad people.
These last 15 years will forever be a big part of my life. I grew up here and although I never got into farming, I will always have a bit of the countryside in me. While we move back to the town, I start a new adventure, surrounded by more people than animals this time. Of course some of these people won't be that much different.
Terrible Customer Service
For 15 years our family have been with the Telephone Provider, BT. At first we started off with the phone and phone line and later we got internet.
Now moving day was meant to be 2 weeks ago, but of course the house wasn’t ready and still isn’t ready. My mother set the for BT to end the contact on moving day a good few weeks before we found out the house was not ready. Of course she was too late in cancelling it, meaning we had to set it all up again. This where all the trouble began…
My mother had decided to contact bt by phone (mobile) and re-order the broadband, thinking she would get the same package. When it came it wasn’t, it was the BT Infinity Box. That’s their Fibre Optic service in case you didn’t know. Now, we can’t get Fibre optic, with living in the countryside, it would be too costly for such a small number of housing. We don’t even have Gas.
My real concern is why BT didn’t tell my mother that the area we live in doesn’t support fibre optic. Why did they let her pay for a service they know we couldn’t get? BT has really let us down. I went on to their website to see if it would stop you from ordering an Infinity pack and it does, so why was it, that by phone, they didn’t stop her. Did they see the £££ and get all excited? Or are the staff so incompetent that they don’t know what the different’s is?
Hopefully we can get this sorted, but when we do move, BT will definitely not be our first choice
The Wonderful World of Media Queries
This is a fun CSS3 concept. It allows you to have a mobile site without the need of completely building a new site. I have recently been working with them for personal and work related projects and just wanted to express my love for them.
Now, if you are wondering how to start on media queries, its not too hard. First off, if your html you need a Viewpoint Meta tag. This is a tag that help make the site view properly on a mobile device. Here are some examples.
But if you dont care for that, I will just post the one I use.
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
That is all you have to include in the HTML, although if you want to add a mobile exclusive class, then nothing is stopping you. It just makes it an empty class in the normal desktop site.
Moving on, into the css. Now I'm still figuring this part out. I was just rewriting the css, for each media query. This is in fact a waste of time. So I've now starting to have 'shared' classes. So say a nav bar has a blue background, that wont get changed in the media queries and just sit outside of them.
This may sound messy, but it makes sense, if you want to change that blue background to a pink, with out changing two lots of classes. The same could apply for text boxes and buttons.
I have only been using two media queries sizes at the moment. I will post them below
For Desktops
@media only screen and (min-width: 767px){ /* Insert CSS */ }
For Mobile
@media only screen and (max-width: 767px){ /* Insert CSS */ }
You can have have different types of media queries, but these are the two I'm currently working with. Since My Site will have a very simple design, It doesn't need to be overly complicated. But If you're working on a very big site, then I would see why you would need multiple media queries.

SimCity 2013 Opinions
The other week, Maxis ran a closed beta for its upcoming title, SimCity. I was lucky enough to be part of the beta thanks to, now, the best person ever. Luckily the game is nothing like the previous SimCity title, SimCity Societies, and in my own opinion is a true successor to SimCity 4. Now, the beta was very limited, we had one hour to play and most if the content was locked. Sounds more of a demo I know. Could this of been a very clever marketing technique? Now I like to play SimCity on a mellow level, slowly building my city and trying as hard as I can to stay in the black. Now, in the beta, I was restricted to an hour, so I had to speed up my normal timing, so I could at least get a good feel of this reboot. So, not to bore you, I am just going to pin point some of my likes and dislikes. - Roads replace electric lines and water pipes Okay, so this feature does save some time, but I love the freedom of not having to water a certain part of my city. Normally in SimCity low class industries didn't need water, not very logical but at least it saved on cash. - Wind Direction The in-game wind now has a sense of direction. Yes, direction. It can go north, east, west or south. Now you are probably wondering why I think this is exciting, well factors like air pollution are more logical now. Before it was just shown in a circle, getting bigger and bigger as more dirty industrial companies moved in. Now it travels with the wind, following it out of the city, so as long as you make sure your industries are down wind of the rest of the city, I think you should be fine. I am unsure about whether or not it changes direction. - Resources Like in Cities XL, maps now have resources. Coal, oil or water can be taken from the ground and be used in either your city or sold to others in your region. - City Size Okay, this is a big issue in the game, but cities are too small. There is hardly any room to swing a cat. I have however heard they are planning to increase this. - Town Hall and other services The town hall and other services such as the school or even power station can now have additional add on. It works like the city editors in Spore, where new modules can just be plopped onto the core buildings. You just need to make sure you have enough room around the core building. Parks are even better because of this factor. - Zoning Zoning is a big part of SimCity, we all know this. That is why Societies was such a flop. We are all sensitive when it comes to our green, yellow and blue overlay. Well this reboot will not disappoint. Although the only thing I dislike about them, is they only show a tiny bit by the road, and not the full length. This could, however be because of my PC. That's all I can think of right now, it has been two weeks.

In some of my free time, I like to play the lego style game, MineCraft. Of course, I'm not much of a PVP'er and rather build stuff with these legos pieces.
I am going to use this blog to show off some of my builds, as well as rant about this and that.
In the comments, please do give me some of your honest opinions and constructive criticism about my builds. It always helps
So this build is based around small cottages. The wooden stairs are trying to resemble a thatched roof with a nice red brick fireplace. I also messed with upside down stairs to add details for the windows and door.
If you want to view them, go on to the MineGuild server (play.mineguild.com) and use /warp jscrtown, it can be found around that area.
Pokemon of the black variety
Back in the early days, I was presented with a Simple Gameboy Colour and a game I would lose many hours to, Pokemon Yellow. I loved that little game, going around catching virtual animals and enslaving them to do my bidding. Exploring this world and finding new, more powerful creatures to help me win a little battle and possibly plastic badge.
The other day, I decided I to get a DS Lite, this generations GameBoy. I got a preowned for £40, if I also brought a game with it, so i did, that game being Pokemon Black.
Now, I hadn't actually played the Pokemon Games since the first Generation, so I had no idea of the new game mechanics or even Pokemon. So I inserted the SD card and began the game.
First thing I notice was the introduction was a lot longer, I'm sorry but I want to go ahead and play, not read a lot of junk I wont remember. After the long winded intro, I finally got into the game and ready to pick my Pokemon.
Now remember, I had no idea about these new kinds of Pokemon so it was like a whole new game. I had 3 Pokemon to choose from, a Leaf thing, a Panda and a Pig. It was a hard chose, but I went with the pig, it looked so cute! It turned out it was a Fire Pokemon, which is always good.
So, Since the day I brought it, til well today, I've explored as much to the point where I got my 3rd Badge and awaiting to go through the desert path.
So far, I'm enjoying it. The game has totally different Pokemon to the one's in Yellow, I haven't even come across one which I recognize, well except the old Picachu brush statue.
But this why I like it. Its a whole new game, and a lot more for me to explore. I do kindof wish we had the options for the Pokemon to follow me, something I do believe was unique to Yellow, but I can live without this feature.
I also like how they made the enemy, Team Plasma, a parody of PETA. Something that the developers properly didn't mean to happen, although would be funny if they did.
Hello World
Good Day
I bet your wondering why I'm on Tumblr?
The main reason is being my site, jscr01.co.uk is no longer having a blog. I have always wanted to blog on it, but because I saw it more of a portfolio site, I was very limited to what I could post, but now, I got this.
I will use this for rants, opinions (I would need to be careful with my opinion, being on the internet and all) as well as a bit gibberish from now and again.
So this is my first post, lets hope its not the last
