POV's season starts in June with Homegoings by Christine Turner. This documentary is a sensitive, rich portrait of a funeral director in Harlem; it's also a history of the African-American funeral tradition. So far, it's the only film in the lineup that I've seen.

I wrote a piece on the representation of women directors at CineFestival. Films directed by women make up less than 25 percent of the running time in this year's program.
