What do betas do exactly?
A beta is a proofreader who corrects grammar, punctuation and stuff. An anal beta does the proofreading, corrects grammar, punctuation and gaping plot holes in your story. An editor does the same stuff as the betas do except they are much more hardcore. They'll do the grammar, punctuation, gaping plot holes, characterization (some betas will do this too), and most importantly they will not be afraid of hurting your feelings as an author. They will tell you how it is. Period. An anal editor does all the stuff an editor does and checks to make sure your facts are correct. In other words, you get a history lesson thrown in. ;) I adore all of my betas and editors. Each one of them has made me a better writer. I'm pretty sure if they read this they'll send me a message with all their corrections. ~J
