Education jargon buster

I was looking at things to do in purplemash but I followed some thread and bumped into this great jargon buster of terms used in schools which I hope will help me (and others): http://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/welcome/for-home/maths-owl/expert-help--2/jargon-buster

Purplemash: pirates+

Looking up the purplemash website upon suggestion from Mrs Kirkby I found this very interesting: the island editor and some videos with a ‘pirate’ describing the proposed activities. However, as I was tutoring Liam, I realised he really wanted to use the car games available and that was a good move. I now would suggest going to purplemash > games and playing A-fish-metic and Maths city 1. The first had a nice counting challenge whereas the latter allowed playing with time, distances and velocities by choosing car speeds.

Smartphone app watches out for chicken welfare

Researchers are aiming to improve the welfare of chickens by enabling farmers to manage their flocks more efficiently using a smartphone app.

People have been developing a system that constantly monitors the welfare of chickens throughout their lives. It works on smartphones placed inside chicken houses.
