Poetic Hope

Deanne and I just got to go to a John Michael Montgomery concert and while he did not play our song, we had a wonderful time. I also wanted to write this post to thank him for writing our song. I highly recommend everyone listen to Even Then by John Michael Montgomery. It is the single most beautiful love song ever. In many ways it shaped the love Deanne and I have built over the wonderful bliss that has been our marriage. 

Prior to meeting and marrying Deanne, I had spent a few years on a plateau that I could not find my way off. For years I pushed and pushed. I had almost given up trying to find my way off that plateau. Then I met and married Deanne. Nothing else changed, just her, gracing my life with her angelic presence. It was almost as though the simple act of marrying someone I was going to devote my life to, gave me the missing pieces I needed to find my way off my plateau. In many ways, I felt her influence in my life prior to marrying her, and that is why I decided to propose.

The journey I have traveled these past six years has been a glorious one. No, it has not all been bliss and easy sailing. We have had our share of bumps and hard times, but the love we share always turns life into wonderful drops of heaven. One of the biggest secrets I have learned about building a love to last is simply to forget yourself and just give. It sounds scary, and in all truth it is. It can also be dangerously toxic if you have one person doing the giving and the other only taking. But when you can get that perfect mix of both of you giving, then it is a beautiful scene to behold. I hope you can find it yourself.

Every day, before I go to bed, I write Deanne a love poem. I have done that since 30 June 2013. I started that accidentally and then just decided to continue. Now, we have added a new tradition to our daily journey. Every night, before we go to bed, I will open one of my poetry books that I published for her, and then read her a few poems. When we finish going through all the poems I have published we will just have to restart. It is a wonderful tradition, that I would suggest to anyone. 

Beauty, like love, is all too often forgotten in our world today. Beauty, true beauty, can rarely be photographed. True beauty, is felt more than it is seen. There are some who might say I am redefining beauty to make it so everyone can feel beautiful. To them I say, no, I'm not. I'm raising the standard of beauty from something painted on by an army of makeup artists, putting the poor model into a position to where if she feels a tinge of human emotion, she might melt her painted on face off, and hopefully reminding the world of what real beauty is. 

If you want to see real beauty, look at someone like my wife. She has the ability to love a child so purely, that after substituting in their class once, the child would remember her, by name, three years later, and she would remember them, by name, three years later. Then after a few minutes of them catching up, that child would run off to tell their parents about how wonderful it was to run into my wife again after so many years. That is beauty. 

I hope and pray I can share the kind of love my wife gives so freely to those around her. I hope I can see the kind of beauty she has in her life, somehow reflected in my own life. I pray everyone, can find the kind of beauty she has overflowing in her life, in their own. I know the world would be a lot better off if they found even a part of it.

I started my journey of writing a poem every day for Deanne by accident … so really it was her fault .. I just decided to continue it … because she is just that awesome and deserves so much more.

Deanne does so much for me, the least I can do is to pledge my devotion to her, so that is what I do as I sculpt a poem for her each day.

It has almost been like a dream being married to Deanne. Looking at where I was at and comparing it to where I am now, is almost unreal. I am so grateful to have her love.
