Santiago, Chile. October 2019. Last week saw the most violent period of Chile’s democratic history. Mass protestations against the country’s rising living costs, crippling inequality, low pensions, poor healthcare and lack of equal education rights were met with violent resistance from armed forces. Despite the state’s repression, Chileans kept to come together and demand change. To rewrite the constitution, which was introduced during the Pinochet dictatorship. And reform the economic model which has resulted in a society made for an ultra rich minority. Thousands have been injured, with 5 deaths at the hands of armed offices and the government is now being investigated for human rights violations.
Despite this, Chileans are continuing to take the streets and act in solidarity to see the change they have been tirelessly seeking.
