How to Reduce the Size of the Photos?

We all have some confidential or private documents and files in our MacBooks, iMacs or Mac Minis. We need to lock them so as to protect our information from being stolen.

This tutorial will introduce two methods of password protecting a folder on Mac. One is to use Disk Utility to create a locked disk image of the folder so that anyone needs a password to open the folder. The other is to use an dedicated app - FonePaw Hidata - to encrypt a folder. After encrypting the folder with Hidata, the folder will be invisible from anywhere of your Mac. Only after your have entered the password can the folder be unlocked and revealed.

A encrypted disk image is not secure enough and also there is limited storage space in the disk image, thus you can't freely increase files in the locked folder, that's why some users choose Hidata, a more convenience way to lock folders with password.

Disk Utility is a built-in app in MacBook that can password lock our folders.

Step 1 Open Disk Utility via Spotlight or locate it on Application > Utilities.

Step 2 Click Disk Utility and select the File tab on the top. Choose New Image > Image from Folder. On the prompted window, select the folder you need to protect with password.

Step 3 Select Read/Write in the Image Format menu and choose "128-bit AES encryption" or "256-bit AES encryption" as the Encryption type. The former is faster while the latter is faster.

Step 4 A pop-up window will require you to input your password twice. Name the locked disk image and click "Save".

Now you can delete the original folder. From then on, you can accees the folder from the locked disk image with password.

So far, You've eventually encrypted your folder into a locked disk image after these inconvenient and complicated operation.

2. Hidata: a more secure way to password lock folders on Mac

Hidata can password lock a folder with higher security level. Once a folder is locked in Hidata, the Mac system won't be able to recognize the folder, thus the folder will be invisible from your Mac and no one can see the folder without password. Meanwhile, unlike password protecting folder with Disk Utility which is not user-friendly enough, Hidata comes with user-friendly interface, which lets you lock your folder by just tapping a few buttons. In the followings, I will give you a brief introduction for your reference.

Download and install Hidata on your MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini running on macOS Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra or earlier.

Step 1: Creat A Password

Open Hidata and create a password, with which you can lock your secret folders. Also, enter a password hint that can remind you of the password.

Without the password, you can't open Hidata and access the password protected folders inside it. Therefore, always remember the password that you created.

Step 2: Password Protect A Folder

There are 2 ways to lock a folder with password on Hidata.

Open Hidata, drag and drop the folder you want to encrypt to the empty area.

Click "+" icon within a circle in the center of a dotted-line rectangle and select the folder you want to protect.

Once the folder is added, the folder will immediatly disappear from its original location and is now password protected.

Tip: Or you can right click on the left column to make a password protected folder. Then add files into the secret folder.

Step 3: Check the Password Protected Folder

Now that the folder is password protected by Hidata, to view what's inside the folder, you need to launch Hidata, enter your password and find the folder you need.

If you have pictures or videos in the password protected folder, you can browser them directly on Hidata.

But if the folder is locked with documents or other files and you need to access the contents, just temporarily unlock the document or file by toggling off the blue button beside the file. The file will be unlocked and show up on your Mac again for you to edit or view it normally.

Don't forget to toggle on the hide button to lock your secret files again.

Why Won't My Pictures on iPhone Import to My Computer?

Photos can't import from iPhone to computer possibly because of one of the following reasons.

Faulty USB cable;

iPhone doesn't trust the computer;

Apple components are not properly installed on your computer;

USB connection between iPhone and your computer cannot set up as USB driver is corrupted;

File permissions for Pictures folder on your computer has been changed because of Windows update;

Some of your iPhone photos are stored on iCloud so not all photos on you iPhone can be imported.

Change A New USB Cable

If possible, get an official Apple USB cable to connect your iPhone to computer. Some third-party USB cables can make your iPhone recognized by the computer and even let you view iPhone photos on PC, but it can't import your iPhone photos to PC. So try to import iPhone photos with a different USB cable to ensure that the USB cable is not the problem.

Let iPhone Trust Your Computer

Keep your iPhone unlock when connecting your iPhone to PC via USB cable. Once it is connected, a notification will pop up on iPhone home screen asking if the iPhone would like to trust the computer. Tap Trust.

Once the computer is trusted, you should be able to choose Import photos and videos to transfer photos with Windows' Photos app (Or go to Portable Devices, right click your iPhone, and press Import Pictures and videos). Also, you can access your iPhone photos on File Manager > Your iPhone > DICM folder.

Install Apple Mobile Device Support and Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS)

Apple Mobile Device Support and Apple Mobile Device Service is used to help your computer to communicate with iPhone. So if they are not functioning, the computer can't recognize your iPhone and thus you can't import photos from iPhone.

First of all, make sure that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed on your PC. Open Control Panel > Programs and Features and see if Apple Mobile Device Support is listed. If not, Apple Mobile Device Support is missing on your PC so you have to reinstall iTunes to get Apple Mobile Device Support.

If Apple Mobile Device Support is already installed but photos can't import from iPhone to PC, try to restart Apple Mobile Device Service. Keep iTunes closed and your iPhone disconnected. Then open the Run window on PC, enter services.msc to open Services window. On the list, find Apple Mobile Device Service, right click it and choose Properties. Set Startup type as Automatic from drop down list.

First click the Stop button to stop the Apple Mobile Device Service.

Then click the Start button to restart the service.

Update Apple Mobile Device USB Driver

On your Windows PC, go to Device Manager and find Apple Mobile Device USB Driver under Universal Serial Bus controller(If Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is missing, read how to reinstall Apple Mobile Device USB Driver on Windows). If there is "!" or "?" next to the driver name, uninstall the drive and then reinstall it.

Reset Your iPhone's Location and Privacy Settings

Why Is Target Display Mode Not Working?

Target Display Mode is not working probably because of the following reasons:

Incompatible devices or cable. Your iMac or MacBook doesn't support Target Display Mode or the cable you are using is wrong or defective.

Your iMac is not logged into a user account or your iMac is currently starting up on Windows.

Your keyboard doesn't support Command-F2 combination.

macOS software problem, which can be fixed by a macOS update.

Solution 1: Check If Your iMac Is Target Display Mode Supported

Not every iMac can be used as an external display, for example, 27-inch Retina 5K iMac and later model doesn't support Target Display Mode. According to Apple, iMac models that can be used as an external monitor include:

iMac (27-inch, Late 2009);

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010);

iMac (Mid 2011-Mid 2014).

To use Target Display Mode on iMac released on Late 2009 and 2010, you need a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable to connect the iMac to the Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt port of a MacBook; for iMac released on 2011/2012/2013/2014, you need a Thunderbolt cable to plug into the Thunderbolt port on a MacBook.

Make sure you have used the right cable to connect the compatible Macs via the right port. Otherwise, iMac target Display Mode could not work.

Solution 2: Log Your MacBook in User Account

The Mac, usually the MacBook, that you want to project screen to iMac, must be logged into a user account for Target Display Mode to work. So if the primary MacBook is on the login screen, there won't be any change on the iMac screen when you press Command-F2 on the keyboard.

Solution 3: Command F2 Not Working

If you press Command-F2 and nothing happens, you should:

Make sure you press Command-F2 on the keyboard of the iMac which is going to be used as the external display, instead of the primary Mac that you are mirroring screen from.

On your iMac, go to Keyboard System Preferences and see if "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is checked. If it is, instead of Command-F2, press Command-Fn-F2 to enter Target Display Mode.

Log the iMac you want to use as a display out to return to the login window. Then press Command-F2 to try again.

Some third-party keyboards don't support Command-F2 to activate Target Display Mode. So use the keyboard that came with the iMac that you want to use as an external display.

Step 1. Get the Amazon Prime Video Ripper Ready
