The Neglected Intelligence: Emotional Intelligence
Emotions are part of being a human and knowing how to manage it is a skill that is far more important than having cognitive abilities alone. To understand emotional intelligence more, I will share my insights regarding this kind of intelligence in order to show my journey in understanding and mastering it.Â
1.)Â For you, what is emotional intelligence? Why do you think that it is important for us to understand the intensity and the differentiation of our emotions?Â
Emotional intelligence is our capacity to recognize, acknowledge, and be aware of our emotions. I think it is important to hone our emotional intelligence because it is important for us to know how we can control the intensity and differentiation of our emotions wherein it would help us perceive how and why should we aim to make the best version of ourselves. By understanding deeply the intensity and variations of our emotions, it would let us see how our actions affect ourselves and others, and also allow us to become better at resolving different conflicts in our lives.Â
2.) Recall a particular situation where you have experienced some intense and strong emotions. How did you express your emotions? What triggered the emotions? How did you handle the emotions?Â
Back then, whenever the plans that I have thought and planned out carefully do not go well, I get irritated, angry, and would blame myself for being incompetent. I felt hopeless and my motivation to complete the plan I had plummets, making me more gloomy and pessimistic. However, I still mysteriously carry on to complete the tasks I have because I cannot help it to not do something or watch myself crash. Fortunately, over the years, I became used to frequent setbacks and that made into someone better. I changed my perspective and mindset by learning to contain my intense feelings particularly anger, and knowing the right time to release them. I do this by just calming down and telling myself that there is still something that can be done to resolve problems that I think are immense and intimidating. In this way, I now view myself as a better person who can still improve and learn more ideas and mindsets that can further shape how I see myself and other people. Â
3.) Based on the domains of emotional intelligence that you think you need to improve, list five ways on how you can develop your emotional intelligence.
I have a problem when it comes to handling relationships. The ways that I think would improve this domain are: finding and talking with friends that are wholesome and would influence me in a positive way, having a personal assessment by talking to myself, writing poems or short stories to better understand others, reading short stories or watching series/anime that tackle different types of relationships, and developing a mindset of being more considerate, kind, and caring for the people I deem important in my life.
These are my isights and stories. I hope that those who will read this post may have a gist about the idea of emotional intelligence and its significance, especially in the current times. Thatâs all hehe ăžăă!
