I've been working on this painting off and on for over two years, and figuring out the composition alone was a serious challenge. I didn't think it'd take this long to complete, but the timing's rather fortuitous with Trek's 60th anniversary right around the corner! 🎉🖖✨ Sketches below the cut.

Is it worth it, for such a brief moment? ABSOLUTELY! Trust me, you will remember that moment for the rest of your life.

It's ONLY safe to look at the sun during totality — even in the seconds before and after, you can damage your eyes without eclipse glasses. But you DO want to remove your eclipse glasses during totality!

But if you're in that less-than-100% area and can't travel to see totality, it's definitely still worth going outside for! Wear eclipse glasses! Or you can quickly make a simple pin projector with two sheets of paper and a pin/thumbtack, or just grab a colander from the kitchen, take it outside and you will be able to see the eclipse indirectly.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The sun will be low in the sky during this eclipse in sub-polar regions.
