I hate having emotions about reality;

the best piece of writing advice I got was from my creative nonfiction professor when I turned in Kill Yourself (a transgender metaphor, one of my favorites) which amounted to saying I'm not committing hard enough. The piece was somewhat gory and kinda painful but I wanted it to be visceral and he was literally the only one to see that. Every other person and professor would have said to make minor changes here and there but he was the one seeing I was holding back for the sake of the assignment. So, he told me to stop being scared and just write exactly what I wanted to say, to commit as hard as possible to the idea instead of testing the waters to see if im even allowed to. So I did, and he was right. The original lacked the conviction required to make the idea work, and the revision brought it to the level that truly let it shine

if you're sitting on a fanfic idea because you think it's "too weird" or "too niche" I need you to understand something: the internet is VAST and FULL of people with your exact brand of weird. that crackship that makes sense only to you? there are at least 50 people who will read it and go "oh my god FINALLY." but even if there were ZERO? you still deserve to write the thing that makes your brain light up.

I love how Carl's love for Donut and Bea is shaped by the love he's felt before. being in denial about how much he cares about Donut because last time he cared about a pet, it was taken from him. not realizing how bad his relationship with Bea was because being shut out, yelled at, having stuff thrown at him were all things his parents did too. Carl only recognizes the "drama" in his relationship with Bea when she cheats on him because no matter what happened with his mom, dad, or fish, Bea is the only person to ever hurt him in that way
