Juuso Malin dons his Femme En Fourrure guise for an album’s worth of “music for DJs and catwalks, nightly promenades and oceanside sexin’” on Jon Convex’s Convex Industries imprint. It’s a stylish if heavily airbrushed display, exploring different tempos and beat patterns but united by its slick, minimal, bass-heavy aesthetic, velvety spoken female vox, and an undercurrent of alone-in-my-penthouse melancholy. Highlights include the skinny fashionista ghetto-tech of ‘Bound’, noirish deep houser ‘Golden Sssh’ and spring-loaded tribal stepper ‘2003’; the likes of ‘Watcher’ and ‘Sunburn’ occupy a sweet spot between oily avant-R&B and lush Slava-style quasi-footwork; club-ready remixes from South London Ordnance and Audionite complete the package. The production is supremely polished, its lux atmospherics hard to resist; it’s sure to be an afterparty staple for a certain breed of party-people, and a guilty pleasure for plenty of others.
