Magic In The Little Things!

Apologies for waiting so long to say it, I was going back and forth on trips to new and familiar places, and I celebrated my birthday as well.

I was pretty committed to the idea of either a toy soldier or a plush rabbit, but I looked online and saw so many OCs who were already themed after one or the other. It gave me the idea to combine both a toy soldier and a stuffed rabbit, and voila! Eslex (my character) was made!

EDIT: I changed his nose and added some "stitching" to make his face look like a plushie

Originally I wanted my wolf OC to have similar colors to Legoshi, so in Blender I modeled him and textured him with gray and tan-ish fur. I experimented with poses and added Nate and Joe to accompany him. All the posing was stiff at first, it took a few attempts to get it right, and eventually I landed on a pose for him that I liked!

However, the color scheme wasn’t doing it for me, so I gave him brownish fur. After a bunch of finagling and messing with skin weights, textures, blend shapes, and other issues, I finally landed at these pictures!

And finally, his name. I named him Leonidas, or Lon for short. Similar to how Legoshi’s name was inspired by Bela Lugosi, I took inspiration from Lon Chaney, the actor behind the Phantom and Quasimodo from the Universal Studios films!

I’m in the middle of watching Beastars, and I got inspired to make a wolf character of my own. These next several posts cover how I attempted to practice how I wanted to draw him before I made him in Blender

Zootopia OCs 2/4

So yeah, Nate looked too much like Nick Wilde in the early drafts. Per critiques from my friends, I tweaked his design on multiple accounts.

I softened the cheeks first, then changed his eyelids from shiny purplish pink to shades of orange and lavender. Then I thickened his eyebrows.

Still, he looked too much like Nick, so I added more weight and fluff to his torso and I shrank his eyes. After that I gave him glasses!

I also got critiques about his outfit, which, according to my peers, didn't quite link to his personality. I gave him a stagehand outfit to try and fix the issue.

Above: This image features one of the rough drafts of Joe Bunderson. He has larger eyes here compared to the drawing. His nose is shaped more like a triangle as opposed to the drawing, which featured a rounder nose.

Above: I made an attempt to replicate a still from the "wolf howl" scene in the first Zootopia movie. My friend's sona (the tiger) is here in place of the wolf.
