THOUGHTS ON CUTGATE
umm what is going on 😭✌️
so from what i've seen cutgate is a theory that revolves around a doc posted on twitter. main point is that netflix had significant portions of volume 2 cut.
it would explain a lot of the inconsistencies we had in terms of plot.(max and el's reunion being so muted, max and will's reunion being so emotional, mike having 0 screen time or character growth)
it would explain the promo inconsistencies. (noah saying him & finn spent the most time together, shawn saying noah and finn would carry a lot of emotional weight in v2, maya mentioning scenes in a basement)
it would also explain the release inconsistencies. v2 wasn't finished editing and runtimes weren't released until december. v1 was finished and runtimes were released a month in advance.
First of all I want to say don't go blindly into believing this!! I know there is a lot of evidence pointing towards it. and I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that things WERE cut from volume 2. that happens in all movies & tv. HOWEVER i don't think the amount that was cut was this extensive. that's just insane.
on a personal note, part of me wants to believe it. maybe the writing wasn't as bad as we thought and the plot holes were because the story was censored. there has to be hope for this show, right? so many cast and crew members would've had to be straight up lying. there was an odd amount said about volume 2 that was completely false. a big cut could make sense. but then I don't want to subject myself to this hope to be disappointed anyway, like we already have been. i hate being delusional. it all feels like copium
Finally-- what is the point? Even if it's true, what will happen? The cut scenes won't be released, volume 2 is already out 😭. there's literally 4 days to the finale. they can't just change the story. or push back the date, considering v3 is being released in theaters. they can't fit these scenes into the finale.
