Taking this class after having already completing ARTS 246 I went into this class not really know what exactly I was going to learn from a class that was the level one of something I’ve already taken. I was so happy to realize that my professor was very carrying and made great crits, therefore making the course even more enjoyable. I loved the assignments we were given this semester I thought that it was very wholesome to go back to the crafty work like the first couple of projects we stepped back from being digital and went with hand craft skills. I didn’t know how tedious I was as an individual until coming across those projects. However, I realized that I am a very attention to detail individual. I also liked how during crit. The class was very open about given their opinion about other works. I think that I definitely saw my work evolve and I think I was able to give some good tips to my classmates that helped their work evolve as well. Given this is my last semester of my undergrad I think that this was a great class to have to end on. 10/10 recommend!

I really enjoyed working on this project. I didn’t know how to approach the assignment at first but as I began to make prototypes and begin working through the designing process, I ended with something I am proud of. I think that my favorite part about this project was being able to make mockups. I thought it was really cool to see my logos and patterns on different mock ups and making them really come to life. I would say the hardest part of the project was finding out the information you need to create your new brand. I also think that looking for a mascot that is not overused is very difficult as well. I think that I would recommend this project in the future because it was nice to see all of the different interpretation. I also think that this is a great way to help students think about rebranding while also remaining out of the copyright and legal issues area.

This reading reminded me of the make and remake project for ARTS 246. Creating and designing a type face is very difficult. Having all of the letters look the same while also being their own individual letter is difficult and while physically placing them together, deciding how there kerning will be for the letters. For this week we showed our progress for our sports team. I really think that I am on the right track in making something I am going to be very happy with. The next part of this process is our presentation. I think I am going to design a slide and elaborate one each slide for one minute therefore having a total of six slides. I am super excited to design those and show my work to my class.

This week I am very happy where I am with my logos. I think that I am finally going in the direction I wanted to go in from the start of the project. I did more research into the wildlife and have come to the decision to change the Merlin into the Crow. I think that this bird is a better representation of the main colors that I chose for my team which was gold and black. I have finished one set of Jerseys and I plan on working on another set that are white. I also will be showing a bigger version of the helmets when we are due for the presentation. I am super excited to show what I have. For this week’s reading I related to it in the sense of I did not realize how hard it was to create a nice hierarchy until I was designing my personal website.

From the article I really thought about how as a beginner designer it is hard to edit your own work sometimes and I think that having someone else to look at it and give constructive criticism will allow the work to evolve into something even better. For this week we continued evolving out brand and I think I am getting close to where I want to be with my logo. I however am just confused as to how I am going to form a Merlin bird to a football team. I think I my do some more research into other wildlife but I’m not 100% sure. I am super excited to get to the merchandise part of the assignment I have a few ideas for fan merchandise and of course for the team as we.

I think logotypes are very cool, but I did not really separate them off by themselves until reading this article honestly. I think that it a elegant way to brand a business as well. I will have to look up more examples of logotypes and surprise myself with what I may fine. This week I am finishing up my final spreads for class. I am still on the fence about the color pallet, but I know I am sure to figure something out. In critique I was also told to remove the little circles around my larger circles. I think that it made the overall appearance of my spread’s cleaner. I love assignments like these where we are allowed to be creative and create things that are unusual. I had a really fun time with this assignment and will definitely be something I add to my portfolio on my website.

The two letters I decided to go with for my 27th letter project is the PHI and the Cue. I think that the thing I liked most about this project is being able to manipulate the letters using letters already in the alphabet. However, this made it very difficult to make an original character. Given this obstacle I made the eraser tool my main thing and playing with the rotation of the letter as well. I unfortunately didn’t have time to read this article but will be more than happy to go back and get that done when more time is available (week 6)

I chose to rebrand the Washington Commanders. When looking for another name to go with the Washington, D.C. football team I wanted to find something that related to the District of Columbia while also providing a fierce like team/mascot for the fans to get hyped for. When researching the football team, I realized how they wanted to focus on representing the team as someone in a role of leadership, while also using another “human” for their mascot. I tried to stick with this theme and go down a path that I chose the name to be “The DC Capitals” which has a nice ring to the name but then I couldn’t not figure out how I would represent the capitals as a mascot to complete the brand. I decided to go away from that and choose an animal to represent the Washington Football team. I chose the Merlin. Merlin’s are found in the wildlife in Washington, D.C and I think that it would work well in a logo combining the “M” with the “W”.  I am supper excited to see where I go with this idea or even if I decide to go back to my original idea and go with the “DC Captials”.

Weekly Update: This week we brought out 16 sketches of our letter forms to class. I think that I am narrowing it down to one for my san serif and I am having trouble picking the one for my serif. I know that I will be able to pick one out and bring together something I am happy with.

(Reflection of week) We were introduced to a new project but some of my classmates and I have already completed that said assignment and are currently waiting for that next assignment to be listed :) 

(Reflection of week)This week we have been jumbled for me so im trying to gather my thoughts but we are now finishing and submitting the lettering as shades of black and white colors! I unfortunately didn't take any pictures of the final result but i do have pictures of my thumbnail sketches.

As far as the reading goes I didn’t quite understand what was being said about what the golden square is. I tried googling to find more information but also got no luck :(  

As far as this weeks progress goes, I have struggled trying to create the shadows for the black and white contrast square but i think that my progress from the bottom to top improved as I kept trying. I think that the same goes for the line art as well. I am very very very very nervous about moving on to the next step and cutting the pieces to her face.
