Gilded Age heiress Katherine Tanthalos is out for her third Season on the New York City marriage market; her grandmother and guardian Bavmorda determined to make her a match before summer's end. Jade Claymore is a high-flying acrobat, travelling with Willow’s Circus of Wonders. While her body soars through the big top, her heart yearns for something to keep her on solid ground. When a chance encounter brings them both together, the course of their lives forever changes direction.

“What happened to plausible deniability?” Kit asks. Jade shrugs, and the gesture doesn't seem to fit her, like she's never shrugged off anything easily. “I've decided not to deny it,” Jade says, and her eyes are so brown, the most solid color, the most immovable. It could bury Kit. It gives Kit the same feeling as when Jade had brushed her hair under her helmet, grazed the skin along her temple and tucked it behind her ear.
